Hello
My question is very simple, and that is I have installed softmii on my Wii
but it won't load backup GC games. Therefor I decided to install a chip.
Will it cause any problems if both are on the same Wii?
Softmii to chip
Re: Softmii to chip
You need a GC backup loader.
Boy I tell you what, are those some god dang video games?
Re: Softmii to chip
I do have it in the homebrew channel
its called "Gamecube Launcher" or something like that, version 0.2
doesn't work, but works with originals

Re: Softmii to chip
Are you using Wiigator?
It sounds like either you don't have the correct CIOS installed or the media you are using isn't liked by the Wii.

Re: Softmii to chip
it might be the cios,
I am using wiigator, but I had problems running a game, then I installed a cios patcher for gamelauncher. Which seems that it made it worse.

Re: Softmii to chip
Will any Wii chip play gamecube games?
Will it conflict with the already softmii software installed?

Re: Softmii to chip
If you do go the chip route such as wii clip or something similar then you would be better off updating with the official updater and removing the CIOS, just so you have the best possible compatibility with hardware and software. Then if you want the homebrew just do bannerbomb and get it back.

Re: Softmii to chip
I am all ready to take does the CIOS or whatever.
Installing a chip is much better than messing with the system.
But I will be able to run Homebrew and emulators right?
But I am not sure how to take out the CIOS, I am afraid of bricking my Wii.
Shall I just do an official update?
Plus, you didn't answer my question, will any Wii chip play gamecube games?
and thanx Niode,
You have been very helpful to me in all my posts, thanx a lot.

Re: Softmii to chip
The easiest method of modding a wii is going for a Wii clip and getting the Wiikey. You attach the modchip to the wii clip and then literally plug the chip into the system and that's it.
The wiikey will allow direct boot of GC backups.
If you want to have homebrew on the system as well, you need to softmod the system. No modchip will allow the booting of homebrew unless it's in GC .dol format on a DVD (even then I'm not hundred percent this method would work for the Wii). You are much better off removing all the homebrew channel and everything softmod related off the Wii and then using a 'safe' software update such as 4.0 (this will update without bricking your wii) and then upgrading from there as and when you need it.

Re: Softmii to chip
will follow your modding advice
as for homebrew I do not need to run backups, I just want the homebrew channel and apps. I think that does not have to mess with the CIOS and other stuff. Am I right?
