NGPC Region question

Post by Lokkenjawnz »

So as far as I know, most NGPC games are basically region free, i.e. there might be differences between different regions' carts, but that they all contain both the japanese and english versions of the game.

The issue, is that I see games like Faselei that, at least based on the implications of what I've read about it, are actually different per region, as in the JP version doesn't have the english version of the game. Is this true? I'd really like to pick up a copy of Faselei, but the english releases are rare and thusly expensive, but the JP version is relatively common and cheap.

So are all the games english and japanese on the same cart for all regions? Or are there certain games that have both languages, and some that don't?

That's a surprisingly thorough list, but it doesn't quite answer my question, I guess I didn't really explain it well. I'm wondering about the languages on the carts, because for instance a US Metal Slug cart will change to japanese if you change your NGPC's language to japanese. I'm wondering if that's the case for all NGPC games, because I'm fairly sure they're region free (if this is incorrect, someone please correct me!). Basically I want to know if I were to buy a JP region game, would it have the english version in it? And if so, are there any games that don't have that?

Also something of note: that site lists that there's no US version of Faselei, but I remember that the US version was in fact released later in those little NGPC 6 pack things, though I could in fact be mistaken.

I think all NGPC are region free, but indeed not all of them will support both languages. I'm pretty sure that not all games have both languages on the cart - and namely more intricate games like Faselei! are unlikely to have it to save "space". I can't give you a list as I don't know of any. If you are wondering about a specific game I think you should be able to use an emulator (set to U.S. region) and a (japanese) ROM of it to test this before buying.

Because AES carts are simply MVS carts with a different pinout. With the MVS SNK could save a lot on manufacturing costs by having every version on a single MVS cart and sell it to arcade operators around the world. Plus, due to their size they are not constrained by memory space.

Alright, I guess that makes sense. I don't really know much about neo geo.

I hadn't even thought of that, that's a genius idea!

Yeah they do look pretty cheap actually. One of them says it's the japanese version though, and the other ones don't say which version it is, so I'm a little unsure about which region I'd be getting. I might shoot one of them an email about it.

Thanks for the help everyone!
