Rotating Monitors

Honestly, the typical CRT monitors I'm familiar with I wouldn't trust standing on the side at all. They tend to be round-ish as well. I'm just talking about the plastic and weight, nothing magnetic (I have a fairly good idea on how CRTs work and it shouldn't really matter for that part).

Maybe you're right and I'm just over wary. The most likely explanation IMO is that we are both right, just that we have differing "average CRT" around us. I would not be at all surprised to find out that the majority of monitors I see are flimsy pieces of crap (giving me the general impression).

I guess so, I'm using an older Gateway monitor I've had since I got my first computer years ago that's boxy shaped and features holes on all sides so I'm confident that it's going to be fine. Plus somehow beyond all explanation it's image is still quite crisp and colorful even considering how bad it is.

I'd honestly be using a better monitor myself, but I screwed up the really nice Multi-Sync NEC CRT monitor I had bought from goodwill by accidentally scratching the screen's anti-glare coating when I was cleaning it.

I used to flip my 20" CRT Trinitron VVega back and forth from horizontal to vertical several times a day. Never had any problems with it and it was stupid heavy. I sold it to a good friend and his mom still watches programs on it daily. No problem.

Its gonna depend on how well the TV or monitor is built. An arcade screen is going to have a sturdy frame for mounting in either position. I've seen the insides of screens that had a heavy duty metal frame that the tube was attached to. I've also seen ones that looked like they barely held the tube still in the case. Its just gonna matter on how well its build and if the heat can get out.
