Anyone playing Tekken 6?

Post by miked »

I feel its good but not great. The "Campaign Scenario Mode", or Tekken force mode as most of us know it was a pretty big let down. There is no targeting system so it seems like your constantly getting punched in the back of the head. Overall the controls feel sloppy and Namco could have done way better that this. I also wish I could choose any character I want instead of Lars, some long lost Mashima relative. I only played this for about 30 min before getting bored, so I probably need to give it another try.

Next the ghost battle mode I loved so much in Tekken 5 is also shitty because you can only reach the level of first dan unless you play online. Local multiplayer doesn't count and you MUST play online if you want to advance. This wouldn't be a bid deal but my internet is shit and I can't play online without massive lag. Also the game has no unlockable characters. This makes for a pretty shitty single player experience.

Lastly the ending boss of the arcade mode, Azazel is by far the hardest most ridiculous boss I have ever seen in a fighting game. Azazel is the new Seth(from SF4) times 10. My winning strategy so far? Spam kicks over and over. I feel incredibly fucking lame for this........

BUT, in terms of a 1v1 fighting game, what this is meant to be, its fucking awesome. The roster is huge and if you have a few Tekken playing friends you will find it is worth every penny. By far the best Tekken ever for multiplayer. Just wish they hadn't removed some of Pauls moves and replaced them with super lame ones. Hes still my guy though.

Agree or disagree? Please post your opinions as I would love to hear them and talk about this game.

All I've played is Campaign Scenario Mode. Seriously.

I mean, obviously, I played a little of the arcade mode, but I quickly said "Meh" and went right back to playing Campaign Scenario. Could not care less about the 3D fighting - give me the Streets of Rage stylings. Also, you can target (R1) and you can select any character you want to unlock after the first couple of missions. (I've been playing as Law the whole time) You also unlock most bosses you defeat.

The only complaint I have with Campaign Scenario is the wonky camera and the lack of co-op. If this shit had Co-op, I'd gladly pay full price for it. (I'm currently just renting it, and I gotta return it tomorrow.)

Damn. Nice job of making me look like a fool 7k . Looks like I totally need to give the campaign mode another try.

I love this game. I still like tekken 5 more because it was stuffed full of so much stuff. It had the arcade versions of 1-3, begun doing the character customization stuff, and is the most fun competative 3d fighting game to play with friends. I bought the limited edition of Tekken 6 so I have the wireless arcade stick. It's completely useless online. There is too much lag. It's all I've used for the campaign mode. I find playing campaign mode extremely frustrating with the dualshock because I'm always struggling to mash the shoulder buttons to find targets while switching between the dpad and analogue stick to move and to fight. The arcade stick solves this by allowing me to map all the actions to a single row across the top.

I beat the scenario mode except for the unlocked areas this morning and feel it's pretty bad. I was expecting it to be an optimized version of tekken force mode from 3 but it's not. It looks and feels very cheap and the story is embarrassingly bad. The whole mode is amusing, but I found it to be very disappointing. Because it's tekken, there are a lot of moments during the scenario mode that just leave you flabbergasted, scratching your head and laughing in amusement. One of these moments is going into a forest area and beating the crap out of dancing bears and kangaroos. Also, you don't have to play as Lars. I played through the scenario mode with Asuka. I think after you unlock the characters you can use them. It gets very odd though when the dialogue is of whatever character you chose, and every single cutscene is about Lars. I have 70% of the trophies left to go, most of them from campaign mode.

The 1 on 1 fighting is what the game is all about thought. I will definitely be spending hours playing this with friends. All of the characters I usually use have quite a few new moves and animations. It runs exceptionally smoothly and everything looks and feels fluid and solid.

The one thing that angers me the most about this game is the load times. These were almost nonexistant in tekken 5. In fact, I can't even remember seeing the word loading at any point during matches. It was the versus screen and then the fight. No mood breaking pause to load up character profiles, and then the wait to load up the actual match.

I forgot to mention this. Even after I installed it to the hard drive its still too long. Sure the graphics are good, but what the fuck is this game loading? At least in a long single player game I get to play through 15 min or so of gameplay, not a 1 minute match.

Yeah, the loading is atrocious. It especially hurts when the game will throw cut-scene after cut-scene your way, each one with their own loading screen. I don't even remember the PSX Tekkens having this much loading.

I'm not a big Tekken fan. The arcade version of Tekken 4 is pretty enjoyable though.

I keep seeing all these Tekken 6 commercials on TV! :o

Does anyone know if there is Online or Offline co op in scenario mode? I may not be looking hard enough but I haven't found it. I remember Namco talking about there being online co op and google brings up lots of questions but no real answers. One thread somewhere said that Namco was going to patch a co op mode for scenario.

I would imagine to stay out of Capcom's (aka Street Fighter IV) way, if they came out even remotely close to one another you know Tekken would'nt really stand all that much of a chance.
