I totally agree there. But I only got a DS earlier this year and I'd rather spend money on games and things I don't already have.

I missed it the first time, but you can see in this picture the DSi superimposed over the DSi LL. As you can see, it is much larger. This is not a new piece of hardware. This is the large print version for the old people. Just like we don't get up-in-arms about the large type versions of our favorite novels there is no reason to complain about this.

so much hate for the dsi!

I for one, am looking forward to it. I don't have a dsi and i never really planed on getting one. However, some of the DSiware looks good, and some of the camera exclusive games look like a lot of stupid fun. That was never enough for me to jump on the dsi though.

The bigger screen/console gets me on board. I don't know about you guys- but the ds lite is too small for me most of the time. My hands cramp up if i use it for more than a half hour.
You do know that the DSi pretty much completely solved the hand cramping problems by relocating it's controls higher up and it's shoulder buttons longer, right?

Also it's not really hate of the DSi, but hate of a new DSi iteration within about four months of the first one being released. Can anyone say Sega in the mid-90's?

The difference here is that unlike Sega, Nintendo has pretty much been a god in the handled industry for two decades. That and the DS is pretty much everywhere nowadays. I mean for a while it was a fashion icon and even my grandmother was interested in one.

I actually didn't know that. I never picked up a dsi or even checked em out in the store.

that- you are totally justified in being angry about. Nintendo should've just released them both at the same time so you could choose which you would like to own. Though, that would prevent people from buying both...

I think the sega comparison is a bit drastic though. Nintendo is releasing a lot of handheld hardware for this generation, but when haven't they done that? Plus, it is nintendo. As far as handhelds go they are the alpha and omega. They can do what they want, and what they do is usually has immense game support behind it.

I'm sure that this is a play to try to increase the market saturation of the dsi and sell more dsiware games. Speaking for myself, i passed on the dsi when it came out. I might pick up the new one.

As I recall, Sega in the mid 90's did Sega CD, then 32x, then Saturn. Nintendo is doing DS, then different form-factor DS, then DSi (technically new hardware in the same way the GBC was new), and now different form-factor DSi. I see a single real hardware revision in here. Everything else is ergonomics.

They did it with the GBA too (rectangle GBA, GBA SP, GBA Micro). Only there were huge differences between the GBA and the GBA SP, and the Micro was a flop. This is just the same thing but bigger.

Of course...

You're both correct, but what I mean is that to Joe gamer all these new DS's are perceived as completely new systems, not just different iterations of each individual piece of hardware which can lead to a lack of consumer confidence in the company's handheld consoles.

Plus if I recall correctly all we saw before as to handheld releases was:

GameBoy: '89
GameBoy Pocket: '94
VirtualBoy: '95
GameBoy Light (Japan Only): '98
Pokemon Pikachu: '98
GameBoy Color: '99
Pokemon Pikachu 2: '00
GameBoy Advance: '01
Pokemon Mini: '01
GameBoy Advance SP: '03
Nintendo DS: '04
GameBoy Micro: '05
Nintendo DS Lite: '06
Nintendo DSi: '09

Nintendo's been having a weird boom in their handheld sector recently that just died off and with so many more consumers playing games Nintendo has to play it safe if they want to start off on another streak of new hardware as to not piss of their new and less detail/tech savvy customers that consider every cosmetic revision a new system.

Yeah, it's quite the comfy handheld from the ones I've held and played at work thanks to the slight button placement fixes.
