Seriously, people are sue happy and (*#$*^#*&#$ing stupid
I feel sorry for the kid, but this is fucking ridiculous. Some days I just want to pack up and move to an island away from people. I mean really? You didn't know? Are you a fucking moron? Knives are sharp, roofs are high, and water will drown you too.

How do people win cases like this? I mean, I could walk up someone and just hit them in the head with a bat, but if there's no warning than clearly it wouldn't be my fault.

"Patch says she's unsure what the money will be used for, but she will be looking into setting up a scholarship fund of some sort. "
What scholarship would that be? Please tell me one of the requirements is you have to be hit with a baseball. I can just see the umpire getting up and saying "Take your base and go to college."

Older. Not wiser.

That is just stupid. This is the kind of story that lessens my faith in humanity.

Aren't we forgetting that aluminum bats are significantly more dangerous than wooden bats as far as velocity/speed/power?
I don't necessarily side with the plaintiffs here, but perhaps the case WILL raise awareness of the problems with aluminum bats in little league play, college, or elsewhere. I for one can't stand the feel (or sound) of them and yes - they are more dangerous all around. I don't know that they need to be issued with a warning - but I do think that there should be a concerted effort to get them out of league play.
It's the same thing as the McD's coffee that was "too hot." Yes, the lawsuit was kind of silly but it brought attention to a real issue - that, frankly, some coffee is served at a much higher temperature than others and it is probably not a bad idea to warn customers. Hell, some customers are just plain stupid (or, perhaps, genuinely mentally handicapped) and need to see the warning. Remember, most warnings and rules are put in place to protect the less intelligent members of our society. I don't have a problem with this, as it really doesn't inconvenience the rest of us...
So yes, the lawsuit is silly but I believe them when they say they wanted to bring awareness to the issue - aluminum bats ARE dangerous. I am glad to see that they are planning to use the money towards some kind of scholarship.
