Hmm...I've never watched C.H.U.D. You guys are saying it's not as great as the hype, but that's ok, since I've honestly never heard any of the hype. So my question to you guys is should I check it out? Is it at least worth watching once, or should I avoid it and move on to other great 80s horror films, like The Slayer or Zombie Island Massacre?

I think I saw it when I was 14 or 15. My less discriminating taste at the time wasn't all that impressed, I'm pretty sure I'd have a less positive opinion now that I'm older. I think it's mostly that it has a ridiculous title that its referred to fondly.
Just saw a bunch of horror movies, but the ones that really stood out were Deadgirl (be prepared for some iffy acting and some stomach squirming) and Teeth (horror comedy about a girl with a toothed vagina). The latter was really good, I thought. I know it is the type of movie that not everyone will like, however, but if you can rent it for free somehow give it a shot.
Also saw Altered, which is about alien abductees fighting back years later. Eh, kind of not so bad sort of. If you try to take it seriously than you are not going to like it, but I am positive it is supposed to be a comedy, action, sci-fi movie. The acting, again, is kind of bleh. Death of a Paranormal Investigator had the WORST acting ever, but I watched it in the dark with headphones on at like 2 am and it helped it out a little. If you can get through the terrible acting it has some freaky moments and some moments that are ssoo bad they will make you laugh. Marker is maybe the corniest movie I have ever seen, but it is actually not too bad. It reminds me of some Canadian made for TV movie, which it may be, and there are some parts that are so bad they are funny. I DO think it is supposed to be a comedy and they premise is kind of interesting or, at least, unique. Acting, again, blows!
Two movies I have seen recently that really stand out are House of the Devil and The Children. HOTD can really be draggy and some people love it and others hate it. I mainly liked it because the way it was shot. It has a very retro feel. It was like it was some movie that had been filmed in the 70s and then lost in a drawer until just recently. Not like your usual movies that supposidly take place in the past, but have a soundtrack by Blink 182. The lead actress is very good and really helped the movie along. I found it very creepy until the ending. The Children is the movie I think everyone should check out. It is about 2 couples spending a holiday at a farmhouse in England. The children start to go nuts and attack the parents. Of course the parents refuse to believe their babies could ever do such a thing and we see a wonderful cross between a zombie-possession like thriller with a background story about a battle of morals and ethics. GREAT and very creepy.
vash23n, based on your taste (I have seen all of those movies and for the most part agree) I would suggest you check out Splinter if you haven't seen it. It is pretty good.

Seen it and LOVED it. I thought it was a really clever way to reimagine the zimbie genre. Everyone starts wetting themselves whenever someone makes a zombie flick that goes against what Romero created, but I love seeing different takes on any movie genre rather than watch it go stale. I have heard so many people complain about 28 Days Later and I just can't understand it. Such a great movie.
Also am hearing a lot about Skeptic, which I saw a while ago and can confirm that it is a great film. Very creepy and Tom Arnold... rest my case!
Yeah this was pretty decent. I would say it suffers from sub par acting as some of the ones I mentioned do. But if you go in aware of that than you will find the movie pretty entertaining.
