the biggest console flop

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Also, for handhelds you could mention the N-gauge.

Or the N64DD, but that's getting really obscure.

Well, since it is a marketing class, the Dreamcast might actually be the best paper topic. Most of the other examples given had a lot of reasons to fail independent of marketing. The Jaguar and Pippin just didn't have many good games. The Pippin was way too expensive. The Gizmondo just didn't work well.

But there appear to be a lot of marketing/PR issues surrounding the demise of the Dreamcast. I'd say that bad PR for Sega and good marketing on the part of Sony is largely what killed it, despite great initial success and a very strong library of games.
Systems: TI-99/4a, Commodore Vic-20, Atari 2600, NES, SMS, GB, Neo Geo MVS (Big Red 4-slot), Genesis, SNES, 3DO, PS1, N64, DC, PS2, GBA, GCN, NDSi, Wii

Alright guys, I'll probably go with the gizmondo idea for the mafia factor, not saying the pippin and jaguar aren't good ideas, they just don't have anything interesting that a non-gamer would like to hear about I'm guessing. I almost care more about what you guys will think of the paper more than what my prof will have to say about it  I was also thinking about the virtual boy just because that whole story was interesting about how the guy who developed it was "killed by the nintendo ninjas" as they say.

As a marketing consultant, I'd love to know what class you are taking, what school you're at, and exactly what the assignment is. Would also like for you to post your paper.

Here's a good video on the Dreamcast's demise and how lack of consumer loyalty to SEGA's brand name helped prematurely kill the DC as a result.
