The 2009 World Series

I am a life long, die-hard Phillies fan (I probably watch 2/3 or 3/4 of their games each season) and am very psyched for the World Series, which starts tonight.

If you are at all a baseball fan - even if you're not a fan of Philadelphia or New York - this looks like it could have the makings of a great series.

So, who's planning to watch? Is anyone else cheering on the Phils? Anyone rooting for the Evil Empire?

Any predictions? I'm going with my Phillies in 6.

Also, as many of you know, I tend to jump on the RB IRC while watching sports - so you can usually find me there, especially in the second half of games...

This is probably one of the least exciting World Series in years for me. Since the phillies just won it and the yanks are the yanks.

I am a forever Twins fan and I am sour about the yanks/twins ALDS. I just hate seeing a good team work and work to manufacture a couple runs of one of the good pitchers only to see it go down the drain by a high paid Yanks mercenary who hits a home run. I enjoy NL style of play however the Phillies are more like the yankees in that respect.

Go Phillies...I guess.

I root for the Red Sox and whoever is playing the Yankees. Go Phillies! Hope Pedro shows the Yanks who their Daddy is.

I used to pay attention to baseball, but the strike in the 90s kinda killed the appeal, and I just never got back into it. That said, I've always been a fan of the Braves. Heck, even the folks in Alabama consider them the "local" team.

As a Cleveland sports fan... I have mixed emotions seeing how the Indian's two former Cy Young winners are pitching against each other tonight.

I think Ill watch the Cavs and maybe check in on the WS for moments at a time.

It's weird, I see so many people in NC wearing Cubs hats, when they aren't from Chicago. Why would someone put themselves through that?

Well the Phillies just won - but this series still pits the losingest franchise in the history of baseball up against the winningest. The Phils strike me as the kind of tight-kint team that has been built from the ground up - most of them have played together for 4-5 years or more now. The Yankees, on the other hand, almost always strike me as an all-star team made up of players that I've always associated with other clubs.

I can appreciate the Twins - I saw them play at the Metrodome a few years ago against the Cubs (I have a good friend who is a Cubs fan). I am definitely a much bigger fan of the NL (I don't care for the DH, for starters), but I have an appreciation for most Midwest and small-market AL teams. Heck, when I used to live in the Dallas area I went to a ton of Rangers games (at their old park) and still like to see them do well.

That said, the Twins and the Angels both shot themselves in the foot with stupid errors and generally poor play. The Yanks aren't as good as they're being advertised to be.

I hope the Phils avenge the Twins for you!

It took some time for me to get back into baseball after the strike too, Ack. I probably took a year or two to "heal" - but nothing beats sitting at a game (or watching it on TV) with a bag of peanuts, a hot dog, and a cold beverage on a hot summer day. There is no substitute for baseball in the summer - don't you feel like there's a void in your life?!

This should be great! Would be even better if this was on HBO. And whoa, Mark Grace, whose poster used to hang in my bedroom next to Sandberg and Dawson, doesn't look quite like the athlete of the past.

Chief, I grew up in a poor, broken home in Alabama, and now I'm about to graduate with a master's degree and have absolutely no idea what I'll be doing to survive three months from now. I feel like there are lots of voids in my life. Baseball being one of the lesser ones.

Yeah Twins/Angels played horrible. Twins really had no business being in the Playoffs anyway. 87 wins shouldn't be enough. At that point a second wildcard is more deserving.
