Console Build Quality
Re: Console Build Quality
The laser in my Sega Saturn went out. The system would boot up, but it couldn't read any games at all. Ultimately just had to get a refurbed system.
My original model DS will only play games about 2 out of 3 times, because on some occasions I'll just get a white screen when I turn it on.
My Wii got a Gamecube game stuck in it. Every time I would eject the game, I'd hear it trying to come out for about a minute, but nothing. Had to send it to Nintendo so they could charge me about $100 to take the game out. They told me I shouldn't leave Gamecube games in the Wii for long periods of time, which seems pretty ridiculous.
The fan in my old PS3 sounds like its going out. Don't know if it is really a problem or not, but it isn't making as much noise as it used to. I think it may have to do with my cat always sleeping on my heat-generating electronics.

It's a Dreamcast, it's immortal.Gnashvar wrote:I would be a nice article for Racket Boy. What console model of each type is the best for collectors. From a value stand point and and from which one will last the longest. I rather have something that I can play for years to come than a rare pink Dreamcast that will stop working in a few years.

My sega genesis controller from 1993 still works perfectly. On that note, does anyone know why the later 6 button version won't work with ms pacman? I can't get her to turn at all unless I've already hit a wall. I ran into this same problem on my genesis joysticks.

Re: Console Build Quality
Just hold down the MODE button on the top right of your 6-Button Controller as you boot up the Genesis until you see the title screen. This makes your 6-Button controller register as a 3-Button Controller until you turn the system off.Jrecee wrote:My sega genesis controller from 1993 still works perfectly. Ms. Pacman and I believe one other game (The name of which completely escapes me at the moment) were the reason for the creation of the mode button on the 6-Button Controller as some error in their programming made them freak out whenever they detected anything other than a 3-Button.

Yeah, I love my 5000 series model but I may go out and hunt for a few older ones in good condition just to be able to have the possibility of a crazy multi-player LAN setup at a party or convention.d123456 wrote:I award this post gold status. Cool you included the info about the ilink since that is something I want to try with Battle Gear 2 (Tokyo Road Race)

Re: Console Build Quality
Indeed. I already have three monitors sitting next to one another (four if you count the Vectrex), so the idea clearly doesn't frighten me. Any idea what the most reliable PS2 console with the iLink port would be? I'm on my third PS2, alas, so reliability is definitely an issue for me.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:Yeah, I love my 5000 series model but I may go out and hunt for a few older ones in good condition just to be able to have the possibility of a crazy multi-player LAN setup at a party or convention.
Re: Console Build Quality
Sega Genesis is a strong system, I had mine for over 12 years and its still running. I don't own a Neo Geo AES, but Ive heard their one of the most reliable systems. On the otherhand, I had some problems with PS2s mostly the disc read error, but its kind of easy to fix.
Systems: Sega Dreamcast(x2), Sega Genesis(x2), Sega Saturn, Sega CD, Genmobile (portable Genesis), FC Twin, PSX, PS2(x2), GBA, SP, Xbox 360, N64, Showcase Arcade

I don't know the Series number, but I'd assume it would be the V8 motherboard which was the model made directly before the 5000 series.crux wrote:Indeed. Re: Console Build Quality
I say stay away from the cdx...unless you can buy it from someoen you know in person, I have had several and ONLY ONE...did NOT get messed up in shipping. As much as I love it...avoid it if its got to be shipped.
Yep, I know im the one ya love to hate.
Re: Console Build Quality
with nintendo making gameboys that could withstand wars, you'd think microsoft could make a xbox 360 that could take a little warmth and not die
