Question For Those Who Own Both a 360 and PS3
With all these multiplatform games nowadays that pretty much look and run the same on both systems, how do you generally decide which system to buy it for? Are there certain details that you look for such as mandatory installs (PS3) or load times. Have you tried to keep one certain genre of games on one system, like say.. sports games on the 360, and another genre like fighting games on the PS3? Is online play a big factor for you? Or does in simply come down to which controller you prefer for that particular style of game?

Re: Question For Those Who Own Both a 360 and PS3
Basically I've always bought only the exclusives for the PS3 and everything else for the 360.
To me anyway, most multiplatform games look better on the 360.
And even though PSN is free, I prefer doing my online play via Live.

Well, mostly I've been buying all my multi platform games on Xbox 360 since they tend to run better than their Playstation 3 counterparts, but if it has exclusive benefits on a particular console, ala Batman: Arkham Asylum (PS3), I'll always buy it on that one. In regards to online, the amount of friends who have it on one console is sometimes a factor also, but usually, it's 360 or PC.

unless I hear that the ps3 version is vastly inferior (ghostbusters and bayonetta come to mind) I get the ps3 version because I prefer the ps3 controller. my 360 hasnt been turned on in a while..but that'll change tomorrow with forza 3.

And I'm the opposite... I mostly buy 360 because I prefer the 360 controller... it reminds me the most of the DC which is probably my second all time fav controller, just behind Saturn. (Genny doesn't play tune to this mainly because it's the Saturn controller just smaller with out the L and R buttons, well the 6 button genny that is).cyborc wrote:unless I hear that the ps3 version is vastly inferior (ghostbusters and bayonetta come to mind) I get the ps3 version because I prefer the ps3 controller. my 360 hasnt been turned on in a while..but that'll change tomorrow with forza 3.
Re: Question For Those Who Own Both a 360 and PS3
I buy all my multi-plat games on the PS3, it's quieter, I prefer the controller, online play is free and most of my friends have PS3s. The 360 is reserved for shmups and other exclusives.
Re: Question For Those Who Own Both a 360 and PS3
I buy the PS3 version most of the time unless its far less superior. I've noticed PS3 games usually keep value longer for some reason, and for games like Street Fighter and Blazblue the D-pad is light years ahead of the 360 controller. I buy very few multiplaform games, I tend to buy system exclusives just because they tend to be the better games on a system.
Re: Question For Those Who Own Both a 360 and PS3
I mostly bought them on the PS3 due to the DVD drive going out on my 360, but now that it's fixed I'll probably be getting them on the 360 because I MUCH prefer the controller.
Re: Question For Those Who Own Both a 360 and PS3
It usually always comes down to:
Am I paying for Xbox LIVE Gold?
Which controller do I prefer?
Which system is, either through exclusive content or tech specs, superior?
I don't own both consoles, but I'm pretty sure that's what goes through people's minds when they are deciding.
Although I do have a friend who will always get the X360 version, regardless of other factors, simply because he likes Achievements and doesn't like Trophies.

Re: Question For Those Who Own Both a 360 and PS3
Multi-plat games, I'll lean toward the 360 version because I like the controller a bit better and because up to now, many of those titles simply run better on the 360 because it was the lead development platform. Some examples include Orange Box and Fallout 3. But starting last year with Burnout Paradise, the tide turned more toward an even footing. BP is actually slightly better on PS3 according to Criterion themselves, but we're talking tiny increments. I also like achievements more than trophies simply because 1) they have been implemented on ALL games since day 1 on 360 and 2) that gamerscore is always up there in the corner, whereas with PS3 trophies you have to look a few levels deep in the menu to compare. I don't play a ton of online games, but I do have more IRL friends on my 360 list than PS3. So for a game like Borderlands, which I might buy this week, there's no question I will get the 360 version.
One thing I have tried to do is buy all retro-ish titles on the PS3 because of the d-pad. I got the Genesis collection on PS3, for example. I would have bought Bionic Commando: Rearmed on PS3 but didn't have one when it came out. If I ever get Mega Man 9 or the new Rocket Knight game, those would be PS3 for me. There are simply more fighters on Xbox/XBLA so I have HD Remix and MvC2 on 360 (and I bought an arcade stick for those - still practicing with that).
It's all about preference, honestly. The days when one system had vastly superior or inferior versions of games is gone. Today everything is 98 percent the same.
