Interesting. I have quite a lot of SNES games, including 2 copies of Tetris Attack (by error) - all have the Nintendo screws, etc.

When I read this thread, by thoughts were pirate copy, but may not be.

Does the SNES have some sort of anti-piracy tool in it that I didn't know about?
Later SNES games have quite a few tricks up their sleeves when it comes to making bootlegs unplayable.
I think Earthbound's method of copy protection was the best. Get to the final boss, then game locks up and erases your saves.
What's funny is how in-character that is for the game.

I've also read it makes the whole game a nightmare to progress through by ramping up the difficulty.

That's terrible! What if you didn't know it was bootleg.
Thanks everyone...

Wow! I just checked this thread again because it was on the front page and I was surprised to see so many helpful and, in the case of Earthbound, funny, replies. Thanks for the many tips.
I had bought the game from a local retro game store so I figured they knew to check the games; but I've never seen that screen before and I own close to 30 SNES games so I just wanted to make sure. Also good to hear that the "Made in Mexico" is a normal thing to see.
