Infinite Bits con, Miami, Oct 23-5

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I went to this today, it was pretty fun.

I enjoyed the panels. Checked out the one from the arcade machine guys, and Dan Ruke with his daughter from "blink". That was fun.

The expo stands were really expensive though. Found a stand with tons of Saturn imports, but the prices were ridiculous... yeah they're imports, but still...

Oh and who ever the HELL was running the main stage needs to check their damn PA guys and lower the fucking volume. It just really isn't fair that at the panel stage only the 2 front rows could hear the speaker, and even then we had to strain to hear them... Some of us really don't give a shit about "Egoraptor" and his stupid character voices, that I have to hear it on the completely other side of the entire show as if he was standing right next to me. That or the oooohing and awwwing during the costume contest... I mean really, I can't see the costume from the other side of the center, and you aren't describing it or anything. I'm more interested in the speaker in front of me, the reason I'm over here next to this speaker.

My review cut from site:
The rundown: The show was over all good. Being first con, you could exspect low turn out, but IB played it as a big con...so lots of space. Space withput ppl?! The entire event was in one large room with curtian dividing walls. In other words, very noisy. I hung out with Carlson at his booth most of the two days. I did walk arround and check out the arcade and open-gaming areas. The Retro area was good, and I think Wedoca can take some of the ideas and use them for AZ next year. Tournaments was a joke, 20 ppl for SF4 running on one setup...the dude who got it was wearing a SBO shirt so you knew he was a gamer. Turns out, it was Peter from FL...he hits FR and NEC.

Miami was hot and humid, rained Friday night. High Life was about $10 a twelve. Hotel had gone through some remoldeling, so it was decient but the convention area was ghetto...think the first AWA.

ghetto?

I found bullet casings in the parking lot.

One of many reasons I don't visit Miami often. Though I think I'll be visiting more often now, talked with Noreen from IGDA and I liked what they had planned for the near future (when I first joined them 2 years ago, our chapter was basically in the pits) so I hope to be going to their monthly meetings again (that is if they don't skimp out on doing them yet again).

Man, I miss chatting with Carlson when I'd see him at anime conventions. He'd always have some shmup suggestion that fit my (then meager) budget or bring stuff I was looking for to the next convention.

I'm definitely going to be saving up for this and the upcoming Animazement in general. I'm a huge Eva fan, so this is a must buy for me, plus I've heard it's not too bad of a 1 on 1 fighting/mission style game either.

EDIT!: By the way not to sound like a total noob (Although I am pretty new when it comes to the whole nerd and geek gathering scene) but who's Carlson?

He's Mad Gear ('16-bit' on ebay). Unless you've talked to him when he's selling at conventions you probably wouldn't know who he is. He sells all import games and the occasional system and peripheral.
