Finally saw "Up" today, and per usual from Pixar... freakin' awesome!!!!


And I'll be watching "The Root of All Evil" tonight sometime... when I get a chance away from work.


@Dakinggamer87 - how is the LED DLP from Samsung? I got my 50" DLP from Samsung about a year before they sold an LED model. Scored it for like 750 bucks and love the thing. What would you consider the quality of the LED model?

I want to take a look into modding my tv into an LED... not sure what work will come into it as of yet (haven't cracked open this TV yet), but it'd be nice to have a long life bulb in there that doesn't use so much electricity.

Finally saw "Up" today, and per usual from Pixar... freakin' awesome!!!!

I'm not a big Pixar fan. Odd for a retro gamer, I'm not big into animation. I enjoy cartoons, love Tex Avery, but I prefer live action when it comes to movies.

That being said, UP is the best movie of the year. Unfuckingbelievable.

Never, ever, in my entire life have I sympathized with animated characters like this before. Five minutes in, and I feel like I know these people. Not just the main characters, even the "extras" are perfect.

There was a family behind me and my wife when I first saw UP. The young daughter behind us asked her Father shedding tears, "Did she die Daddy?". The Dad broke into tears, "Yes. But She's okay." That made his daughter cry. That made her Mother cry. That made half the theater cry. I was too busy sipping on some Pibb, enjoying some ski-tals, and laughing my arse off.

UP just makes you laugh from beginning to end.

Same here, I usually don't go for the animated films. But Pixar just does it well... they make me go "you know, animated films aren't that bad".

To clarify that, I enjoy animated films. A lot of childhood nostalgia there... but I really go "yeah that was AMAZING" if it was animated. But Pixar can get that from me, I forget it's animated. They're probably the only shining beacon of Disney.

And yeah, I was one of those that cried during Up. Speaking of, damn permissions and samba shares are going to make me freakin' cry! Grrrrr, having a hard time splitting gid across folders to make it easy to create files both locally and remotely on the server. remotely is easy, samba is very nice about making that easy... but damn linux is being a bitch.

I just saw "Zombieland" last night. I don't think I have enjoyed a movie more in quite some time. I think I had a grin on my face from start to finish.

Incidentally, I saw it at the Plaza Theater in Atlanta. It's a very old, very small theater in Midtown Atlanta. I was very excited to see that they had an actual Arkanoid cocktail cabinet in their game area. Prior to last night, I had never actually seen a cocktail cabinet in my life. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to play it.

They also had Altered Beast. I was rather surprised to see it. I thought that most of those machines would have fallen victim to suicide batteries by now. Did Sega put out cabinets without suicide batteries, or do you think the machine had just had unencrypted roms installed?

Miller's Crossing - after years of avoiding watching this film for reasons I can't quite now fathom, I finally watched Miller's Crossing and was totally blown away. Easily now my favourite 'serious' Coen bros. film, Miller's Crossing has a brilliant script, an amazing score and some really great performances from Byrne, Turturro et al - really can't believe I went so long avoiding this wonderful movie.

Zombieland - it's not a horror movie, it's a road movie that just happens to be set in a Zombie-filled post apocalyptic wasteland. With that said, Zombieland is one of the funniest movies i've seen all year (which is no mean feat when I consider how much I enjoyed various comedies released this year like 'I Love You, Man', 'The Hangover' & 'Observe & Report') and a perfect performance from Woody Harrelson as the gun-toting Tallahassee.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture - got the TOS movie blu-ray set so I thought i'd watch through them all, unfourtunatly that also meant watching this POS before I get to the good stuff. I don't know what it is about The Motion Picture but i've never enjoyed this movie, maybe it's the pace, the stupid uniforms, the ridiculous plot or just the fact that it's sooooo yawn-inducingly boring.

Drag Me to Hell. Awesome.

Evil Dead 2. Loved it.

Waxwork and Waxwork 2 (got them on VHS over the weekend). First one was AWESOME and the second was kinda MEH. Also, the copy of the first movie got chewed up after the movie ended.

Trick 'r Treat. Loved it.

C.H.U.D. It's okay, but not as good as I thought it would be.

Earth vs. The Flying Saucers. Loved it.

Also, when I got the VHS copies of Waxworks 1 and 2, it was during the Hotline's "Everything 1/2 off" sale. So all the movies I got were only $1. I also got:

* Darkman 1-2
* Critters 1-2 (still in wrapping)
* 12 Monkeys (still in wrapping)
* Dark City

And I also got a copy of Aaahh! Real Monsters for the Super NES for free, because the salesperson didn't know how much it was.

Sweet, Critters! Now THAT'S a series I'd happily watch a new sequel or remake of.
