Just curious.
Personally, I don't other than for the history aspect.
Do You Care About Pre-NES/SMS Consoles?

Meh, good for the occasional historical value, but I otherwise have little if any interest in them.

i enjoyed atari as a kid. played one a lot when i was 4, then again when i was about 6 or 7 and then it totally left my mind. i grew up thinking it was such a great system until i was about 15 - i went to a cousin's house out of state and we dug it out and played. i thought "wow, this is total crap!"
also, when i went into a local retro game store last week this guy walked in and was amazed at the colecovision. he played donkey kong on it and was chuckling at how horrible it looked. so yeah, i saw screw the home consoles before the nes/master system

Same mostly for historical giggles. There is like 3 or 4 games I can think of I think are worth playing every now and then. By that I mean once every 2 or 3 years.
Gameplay and mechanics we very crude then, not really worth playing except for the few star titles, most of which were ported to newer systems then anyway

Not really. I collect game systems I either played or wanted too play as a kid. for me that cuts off after NES and SMS/SG3000. My oldest systems are the Sega SG-1000 and MK3. If they weren't Sega systems I'd not have them. Anything like Pac-Man or original Donkey Kong I'd rather play on MAME or something. Console conversions were really aweful back then right?

I prefer the arcade ones
The console games of that time were usually arcade ports, and the originals have better quality.
However, home computers like the Spectrum (it was big in Europe) have many good games that aren't arcade ports due to home coders and such; but there are usually remakes of the best games nowadays.
Ivo.

I try to have a 7800 hooked up at all times, but it usually falls through, ie now...
There are some gems from back then; Joust, Futball/Football, Choplifter, Pole Position, etc. But like gradualmeltdown there were alot of arcade ports and usually you are better off with mame or a modern port of them. But there is still some magic in them, especially when your stick man is four feet tall.
My older brother and I cant play football together anymore because we get violent when playing - its not my fault that when you run off the right side you appear on the left.
