Noobish cd ripping questions.

Post by segacd32xkid »

I have some Sega CD games that are badly scratched, and was wondering if ripping them to another cd using CDWIN would make them play normally, and not skip or freeze. I was also wondering what type of cd that I need to use to rip, and once the files are in proper format, how to put them on the new cd. Thanks in advance for your help.

Well, your PC can probably read them better than your Sega CD can, but if they are badly damaged, they may be beyond help.

You can try some of these home remedies to help things out with the scratches:

As for the type of CD to use for burning, and decent brand of CD-R should do the trick. Just try to stay away from the really cheap stuff.

Most any CD burning program can burn BIN/CUE images (what CDRWIN will spit out), but I prefer Nero and have built a guide for it:

Hope that helps

And if all that fails, go get the disc buffed at whatever local game store you have. Most places have professional buffer machines that would wipe out nearly all scratches flawlessly. But if it has any label side damage, you're screwed.
