PC Engine Duo-R question

Post by Metal Militia »

I just had a quick question about the PC Engine. My Birthday is coming up and I'm going to buy a PC Engine Duo-R as a gift to me. I know the PC Engine Duo-R plays both JPN and US CD-Rom2 and super CD-Rom2 games so here is my question. Does the region of the console matter what language the game is going to be in like the Neo Geo AES? So lets say I have a PC Engine Duo-R and I put a US version of YS Books 1&2 in it. Is it going to play in English or Japanese? I want to buy a PC Engine Duo-R because I already have a TG-16 and would like to play JPN Hu-cards without having to buy a converter and would like to play both JPN and US CD-Rom2 and Super CD-Rom2 games. Thats my question. Thanks for the help

No, PC Engine/Turbografx games aren't dual language. Just like playing SFC carts on an SNES it all plays in the original language. The AES/MVS is the only console that will display different text based on the region. Since all the games are arcade games it's trivial to support every language and it cuts down on costs; they don't have to create different boards for different regions.

I don't believe any CD-ROM games were multiregion. The US games I play in my Duo RX are simply in English and the Japanese ones are in Japanese, though I only have a few.

If you want to play HUcards, then you will need to lift a pin on the chip and also make switches to swap 4 pairs of wires over to change from Japanese to American games (see my site if you need to know more, TurboGrafx section).

Like previous posters said, you can play us games just fine on it. You went the same route I did, have a TG-16 and a regular JPN Duo for JPN hu-cards.
