Yes the proprietary wireless adaptor is sucky, but you can get around that by buying a wireless bridge (which is more flexible and works better) for half the price. A wireless headset isn't that essential since the one you get free plugs into the controller anyway, and since the controller is wireless and the cord for the headset isn't longer than your arms, what's the problem? Likewise with the chatpad, aside from being a little more convenient since it's attached to the bottom of your controller there isn't anything stopping you using a regular USB keyboard for chat/text input, who hasn't got one those spare? Even my wireless one with a dongle works perfectly fine. So the whole proprietary addons isn't that much of a big deal, there are alternatives and workarounds, but forcing people to only buy an official memory card stings a little. Especially since the users the Arcade (or whatever it's called now) is marketed to, wouldn't especially know not to use third party memory cards, so these customers will get the shaft and not even know what has hit them.
Whoa now, I had NO IDEA that a standard USB keyboard could be used on the 360. I thought it wasn't supported and just never tried it.

What Im really complaining about is that MS won't let third partys help them on the hardware side of things. I have always used third party stuff. and while some of it is crap alot of it I like better than first party stuff. Its not that much of an inconvenience to me, but it just pisses me off.

Yeah, I've always gotten the cheapest memory devices for my consoles. That's just how I am.

I usually do buy official controllers, because there's nothing worse that an awful controller. Memory devices, though - who cares? They don't affect how I play. If they fail, that really sucks, but it hasn't happened to me yet. The only time I use unlicensed accessories other than memory cards would be for controller converters... ya know, for playing Xbox games with a PS2 controller, or using my X-Arcade with any system. Stuff like that.

Microsoft finally answered why they did this.

Patrick Klepek at G4TV got a spokesperson from Microsoft to explain why the decision was made, in addition to what would happen to those who didn't obey the new rules. According to the rep, Microsoft is looking to "protect the Xbox 360 and Xbox LIVE service from cheating, which is the primary purpose and use of these unauthorized MUs."
So, there you go. You can't use cheaper, more efficient memory devices because you were just going to use them to get infinite ammo in GTA4, cheater.
