Robber Prays with Cashier Before Stealing $20 and Cell Phone

Post by sevin0seven »

Times are hard. In Indianapolis on Monday afternoon, an armed robber wearing a hooded sweatshirt walked into an Indianapolis area Advance America payday loan storefront. According to Advance America cashier Angela Montez, the armed robber apologized. Montez told the Indianapolis police,
"He said that he hated to have to do this, but times were hard and he had no choice."

Montez became upset when she realized what was happening and she began to cry. Then the cashier began to evangelize the robber, talking about God and telling him that he didn't have to commit the robbery; he had time to change his mind.

With that, the armed robber became the praying robber. He told Montez that he had a two year old child he was trying to support and he felt he had no choice. The praying robber took a bullet out of his handgun and handed it to the cashier, promising it was the only bullet in the weapon and that he would not hurt her. Amazingly, he then asked Montez to pray with him for help in overcoming his struggles. The robber who prayed and the cashier got down on their knees and prayed together for ten minutes.

Apparently after praying and realizing he still had a child to feed, he took four $5 bills out of the cash drawer and left the rest. The praying robber then asked for Montez's cell phone, asked her to go into the restroom, and instructed her not to call the police for twenty minutes. Before leaving, he gave her a hug.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department spokesman Sgt. Paul Thompson said the police were still searching for the praying robber, whose image was clearly captured on an in-store video camera.

Certainly, the robber who prayed with the cashier will be caught and prosecuted, as his clear image is now shown everywhere.

Isn't it wonderful to know how we have such mentally stable people walking in our streets?

I mean, I understand the stress and the need for money, but I would think standing on the highway offramp begging for money probably works better. I remember somewhere I read that on a good day, people that beg on street corners can make $700 dollars a day and average $50 or so.

They both may be crazy ,but at the same time it shows that the man has a little bit of a heart. I hear stuff like this and I wonder if only if his community or friends and family could of been more helpful he might not of had to go out and rob someone. Lets just say he really had no choice but starve to death or whatever. I consider myself a fairly moral person and If my baby was starving and I saw no other choice I would be the one with the gun myself.

When I was a kid my dad had lost his job and our local church heard about it and brought over about $200 in groceries and we had asked for no help at all. You just don't see people doing those sorta things for one another anymore and frankly nobody cares for anyone, but themselves for the most part today. Its sad to see how things have changed for the worse in just my short lifetime. My grandparents would talk about the great depression and how everyone tried to help one another. I believe if we had another great depression today we would have all kinds of chaos going on instead of people trying to make it together.

The impulse to drop to his knees sure will come in handy in prison.

This is why I think religion is a joke. "Oh, its cool that I robbed you, I'm a Christian and we just prayed together so it doesn't matter."

... and then I read this and realize that it's not all bad. I have no problem with it when people use it to help themselves and others instead of using it as an excuse for when they screw up.

For the record, I do realize that this guy is obviously a douche and does not represent all Christians. I have nothing but respect for all religions, regardless of my personal feelings about them.

It's weird how people find excuses for their actions. But it is sorta a wake up call for the rest of society to see why these people would feel they need to commit a crime. I don't justify the guy but darn it's hard to believe someone feels he's so far in the hole that he needs to do these things. On the other hand he could just be an ass like someone mentioned before.
Thanks everyone...
