Puppydogs and Unicorns
Re: Puppydogs and Unicorns
When I was in college I used to go to the local Gamestop. I was fortunate that they were staffed with college students and thusly it was people who generally knew what the hell they were doing. One time I went to buy Metroid Prime 2 on opening day without a preorder. When I got to the store I realize my credit card was missing (had left it at a restaurant the previous night). The clerk set it aside for me while I biked back to my dorm to get some cash. This was also when they were still stocking old cartridge games like Super Nintendo stuff. I managed to find a copy of Final Fantasy VII PC for $10, which shocked the clerks (they didn't realize they had one). But ever since I graduated and got a job I've found that I can't stand going to Gamestop anymore. I think some of that is that the stores have changed since the end of college to be more "evil" as it were. I was always getting screwed out of preorder bonuses. And some of that is that I no longer have a need to get a game on the day of release. In which case Amazon does me just fine, since I'm a Prime member.

The Gamestop in the Edgewood Shopping Center off Moreland Ave. near Little Five Points doesn't carry GBA. At least, the don't according to the guys who work there. Maybe he just didn't want to pull them out of hiding, though, if that's the case.pepharytheworm wrote:They take them on trade still just send them to certain ATL locations. But every GS I have been to had GBA games they are just sometimes hidden, ask a game advisor.
And yes, Piggly Wiggly is still around, but it's now headquartered up in New Hampshire.
That reminds me-- I wonder how much the change in ownership has affected sales of White Lily flour...

Part 2.
9.Don't bother trading in GBA games or systems w/the box they will be thrown away.
10. Most theft is internal theft at Gamestop. Gutting just makes it easier to steal. Thats why they do what is called a pocket check. You empty your pockets inside out, open any containers you have and lift both pant legs up while spinning in a circle. Anytime you leave a store you have to do this.
11. You might as well keep all cases because you don't get any extra credit or cash.
12. If you trade in a last gen broken controller you will get credit and alll we do is field destroy them.
13. Most regional and district managers tell assocates not to hold any reserved games but to sell through.
14. Gamestop employees are allowed to borrow any game as long as there is more then one and it was not just released that includes new and used. Most likely your new gutted game was already played. We can even reseal up games so you never know.
15. Employee hours are computer generated and based on the number of warrenties, edge cards, pre-orders, and disc repalecment plans. We can edit their hours though.
16. That system during the fall season they say they don't have they usually do. Its being held over for Black Friday.
17. more to come, maybe......

Winn-dixies in my area: http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&sourc ... CDEQtgMwAwLuke wrote:PigglyWiggly is still around. And they still sell half of a hog head for $1.39usd per lb.pepharytheworm wrote: I didn't know winn-dixie still exsisted. They all went they way of PigglyWiggly I thought
I thought Winn-Dixie was done too.
They still survive here in South Florida, zoom out and you'll see Florida has a shit ton, and there are some near big cities in Georgia, Alabama, and Louisiana (among a smattering in some other southern states). Though in my specific area some have been shut down and replaced by Albertons. But at least 60% of them still survive. And considering how we pack stores in here, that's a lot. I swear I have with in walking distance several Public, Winn-Dixie, and Albertsons, along with a Wal-mart. With in very short driving distance there is 4, yes FOUR wal-marts.

I was wondering why it said I commented on a thread called "Puppydogs and Unicorns". I'm also surprised this thread got to 7 pages in such a short amount of time.noiseredux wrote:oh brother. I regret even starting this thread. I'm gonna change the title.
GameStop I work at doesn't take Gamecube games anymore and doesn't sell them. Which is awesome for me, because often times when people bring Gamecube stuff in, they're just looking to get rid of their games and accessories. I've gotten 6 Gamecube games, an e-Reader, Odama Microphones and other misc crap for free.
This isn't even something I have to do with under-the-table deals or what not - just yesterday my manager gave me a box full of Gamecube crap, telling me it was all stuff that was just going to get field-destroyed anyway.
Anyway, I think a lot of the problems with GameStop lies mostly with the managers and employees of local stores. For instance, my local GameStop is mostly filled with people who know what the hell they are doing... with the notable exception of one dumb-as-bricks Assistant Manager who was hired simply because my manager needed someone to help him out. Everytime we get a scratched up disc, a broken controller, the wrong game in a case, etc., 95% of the time it can be tracked back to this one guy.
And yet, the big wigs don't want to fire him. Why? Because he gets more pre-orders than anybody else in the area. Never mind the fact that most of his pre-orders get canceled - they usually get canceled on other employees, and so they count against the employees who cancel, not the person who did the original pre-order. Thus, he continues to get pre-orders while we continue to get shafted on pre-orders.
I mean, this is a guy who, when I explained to him that he put Grand Theft Auto: Vice City into a case that was supposed to have Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories in it, he replied with "What's the difference?" SIGH.
Next time you get pressured into a pre-order and you want to cancel it, please, look at the name of the employee (it's on the receipt) and call to make sure you come in at a time when that employee is working so you cancel on them. Otherwise, that employee is going to continue getting more hours, higher pay-checks and praise from higher-ups, all the while dragging the store and the rest of the employees in the mud.

Re: Puppydogs and Unicorns
Why in god's name would the policy be the employee performing the cancel gets shit for it.
That's just stupid practice, no only does it allow for retarded people climbing high, it also lets quality employees get buried in the mud. What use is that??? Really, what use is it? Oh I get it, it drives the desire for an employee to try to convince a patron to NOT cancel their order, not because the product was good, but because they don't want to be hung out to dry.
So my customer service weighs completely on their desire to not be fired for treating me well. YEY! Shit system is shit system...

Yep, a local Gamestop sold my fully paid for We Love Katamari pre-order to someone else. I had to fight with the manager to get a cash refund, as he wanted to simply give me store credit.pepharytheworm wrote:13.
