I live in Australia and own PAL a region:
master system, megadrive (aka genesis), mega cd, 32x, game gear, saturn, and dreamcast.
Ive got a pro action replay cheat cartridge which also acts as a region converter.
Today i went to bid on a lethal enforcers game and gun for my sega megadrive.
This game pack is from the USA and so it would be NTSC region. It got me thinking.. would accessories such as joysticks, controllers, guns, etc, from other regions work with any of my Sega systems? Does region only restrict the game itself from being played, or does it also concern accessories too? I thought perhaps some systems might be restricted by their regions and some not..such as the dreamcast (from what ive heard).
Thanks in advance from any info.
Sega region question?
Re: Sega region question?
Also, what kind of accessories does everyone have for their sega systems?

Re: Sega region question?
There is no region restrictions on peripherals for the Megadrive/Genesis
Mostly harmless
Re: Sega region question?
The ONLY peripheral region lock I've ever heard of is the Sega light gun for the Dreamcast. The Japanese gun apparently won't work in (some) other countries (America).Hateshinai wrote:There is no region restrictions on peripherals for the Megadrive/Genesis

Re: Sega region question?
The Dreamcast gun lockout is a bit more complex than that. I have a PAL DC with an official PAL gun. Rather than the console, it seems that it is the games that lock the gun out. Confidential Mission NTSC works on my PAL Dreamcast with the joypad but refuses to work with the gun saying that "gun and game have to be from the same region." The PAL version runs no problem. If I remember well the same thing happens on my NTSC-J DC. On the other hand Virtua Cop in the retro compilation Sega did (name escapes me at the moment) has no such problem.Breetai wrote:The ONLY peripheral region lock I've ever heard of is the Sega light gun for the Dreamcast. I once heard that official American SNES controllers will not work with a PAL SNES but I never bothered to check. Can anyone confirm this?
