No, the Famicom-GBA units are not just pass-through cart adapters the was that Famicom-NES adaptors are. Now, I don't know if they have have a NES-on-a-chip or if they run an emulator on the GBA, but either way there is extra hardware inside there.

You could still repackage the internals into a different form-factor if you were willing to go to the trouble, but it won't be as simple as the Famicom-NES adapters.
Systems: TI-99/4a, Commodore Vic-20, Atari 2600, NES, SMS, GB, Neo Geo MVS (Big Red 4-slot), Genesis, SNES, 3DO, PS1, N64, DC, PS2, GBA, GCN, NDSi, Wii

I've thought about doing this. Maybe something the size of the GBPlayer itself.

Hmmm, I have a couple of dead GB carts that could be used as extensions. Would be an interesting mod to do if I got hold of a beat up but still working one of those. Would probably want to turn around the NES cart slot though. Having to pick the whole mess up to shove one in the bottom back side would suck.

see? YOU are exactly the kind of brain I need kicking this thing around. I mean, in a way I'm surprised that this hasn't been done before. But believe me, I've tried to seek out any proof of this being done and can't find a thing.

Haha. So find us some cheap Famicon>GB adapters. I prefer not to mess with nice pristine stuff, but sounds like an interesting project if some ugly but functional ones are found. :)

well, yeah that's sort of the wall I've hit as well. haha. Usuaully when I do find one (ebay, etc) it's $50 or so. Not exactly a price I wanna spend for a "it-MIGHT-work."

Hmm, reading this review says its just a NOAC passing a TV signal through to the GB hardware though. The sound also comes out of the adapter itself, it was not passed to the GB. That seems to make it a bit more pointless as you'd have to run power to the adapter with a separate plug and run a cable to your TV or amp.

So it looks less and less convenient for saving a bit of space and having spotty compatibility. So yeah, that's why nobody has bothered. Oh well.

yeah. But admit it. It would look awesome to slap a NES cart into the front of a Gamecube.

Neat yes, but I'm not sure its quite crazy enough to bother powering up a GC just to use it as a signal box. Its more like the monster a Genesis becomes when a SCD and 32X are bolted on at the same time. :)
