Actually GS has a new guarantee that all CURRENT GEN (Plus PS2 I believe) games purchased on GS.com will come with the official art and case.lost_within wrote:Gnashvar wrote:I never ordered anything from GameStop but I'm thinking about it. What is the quality of the CD/DVD they send you? I'm talking used here. Do they polish or repair scratched discs before sending them? Or they just check that they start up? Shipping for me is going to be expensive so expecting to return it and get another copy in case it doesn't work is not that great of an option.
There are some so called "deals" in used games that are quite frankly far from it. I mean Sonic Unleashed new is 19.99 and used its 17.99 quite a bargain if you get the used one
Considering both copies are opened...WTF is the difference? lol.
Ordering online has a nice warning...or I call it a warning "Some games will not come with original manuals or original cases" meaning...this is the 97% of crap that people do not buy in the stores, so we are going to ship it to you and give you that warning.

I hate gamestop...why?...well...how about selling me a NEW fucking game that is NOT sealed. I actually got a game that was scratched once, I noticed it when I got home...so...yeah that was real nice and NEW. I wont go to GS...no offence to anyone that works there...but they fuckin blow here. Its funny...I went to return a game I had gotten that was still sealed....and he didnt want to return it...thinking I had opened it,..or that it was never sealed!!!! when he saw it was sealed he was like OH WOO! ok sure! New Open 50$

Re: venting about Gamestop...
Yup, it's a lost cause due to the general area (big city vs low profiting last gen titles) and most big city stores can just squeak by getting away with this until corporate comes by for an inspection, upon which they all get in a load of trouble or they pull all their old GBA/GCN stock out of the back/storage.Limewater wrote:I'd like to know more about this. Is Atlanta special, or just considered a lost cause? If so, why?Mod_Man_Extreme wrote: GS in Atlanta doesn't count (to corporate at least (sad, but true),
I have never traded anything in to Gamestop, not do I plan to, so I can't really answer the question. I just know that several of the stores around here no longer stock GCN or GBA.now do they just never have any in stock or do they reuse trade and sale of GBA/GCN in general as that is against current corporate policy and after a quick demandment of their district manager you can actually get most of those stores employees fired if they've been knowingly breaking corporate policy to keep their workload lower than if they did accept GCN/GBA trades.
This summer I was up in Maryland and once went to three in one day to get some GBA titles on the buy 2 get 1 free sale. All three carried both GCN and GBA. One actually even had the Resident Evil Collector's Edition chainsaw controller.

GS has a lot of bullshit promotions. I only use their online coupons when they are actually worth using. "An extra 5% off a new purchase when you trade in 3 PS3 games". Whaa?
That being stated, I love my local GameStop. I know the employees by name, and they know mine. Returns have never been a problem. I had to get my copy of Kingdom of Hearts replaced because there was a glitch that caused the game to crash about 20 hours in.
When I tried to get it replaced the clerk said, "Can't help you, you bought this game almost two months ago". I replied, "True, but it's a long game. Took me a while to get to the glitch".
"Fair enough", he said, and I got a new copy.

Re: venting about Gamestop...
You're not getting it, we aren't supposed to check out new titles until at lest a month or so has gone by from release (According to the employee handbook). Most stores (Including me personally and my store) don't even let their employees breath on new titles, let alone take them home and play them given the risk of damage to the disc or case, etc.... The cases have to be "gutted" to be placed on the wall for customers to look at, GS has no real means to get per say 25,000 pieces of cover art and fake cases for a single individual store without tremendous legal and financial hurdles (This stuff costs money!) let alone over 5,000 stores nationwide; then factor in Canada, South America, Europe etc.... and it's an impossibility. When you're sold a new game you're paying for a new GAME the case believe it or not is a bonus to get; whether or not this is fair is up in the air depending on who you ask, but the case is really just said game company's way of getting your brain to want the shiny new object on the shelf so you give them money.lost_within wrote:Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:It's GS corporate policy, I can't do anything about it, but at least it's m personal and our store's policy to not allow employees to check out new software at all.lost_within wrote:I understand it so here I go...my main piss momment...EVERYTIME I SEE GAMESTOP POSTS...I MUST SAY THIS:

Now if you're buying a new game that has been gutted then what we're supposed to do is place a clear sticker on the side of the case that you open so that if you break the sticker you break your game's "seal" and can no longer return it. The reason most GS's break policy and don't place these on is that removing them is a pain in the ass as the stickers use an industrial adhesive that will literally rip the plastic cover art liner right off of your game's case. So, you either get a gutted game that has a case that looks good or you can get a gutted game who's case looks like crap after you open it.
Is it fair, no. But sadly GS has every right to do so. New games make us about $3-$4 per sale as publishers take all the cash and simply leave us the $3-$4 markup to $59.99. This means that GS couldn't give less of a dam how your new games look as they're not worth enough to the company to really matter in this situation. Used is priority number one at GS and in the coming year or so we may be seeing a games with cases only policy as people are becoming increasingly vocal in their complaints about this stuff.

Yeah some are better than other for that sort of stuff. The place near my work is really cool about returns. Never give me a problem. The one near my house is really jerky about it though. I bought Baden Katos at the one near my work on a Friday but they put the wrong game in the box, which I didn't realize until I got home (I work about 45 mins away from home). So I brought it to the one near my house the next day with the receipt and although they had the correct game in stock they refused to do the exchange for me. I thought that was pretty lousy at the least, if it's not against their return policy considering they tell you that you have 30 days to bring the game back FOR ANY REASON. I just still think its a crock is all, in general. I cant see the "case" just being something I am more or less "lucky to get". The fact that its opened its not new...how about this...
If I sent someone a copy of radiant silvergun and said brand new, and sold it for brand new sealed price...would that be ok for the person to open and see that, yes, the disc has NO scratchs on it...but no it was NOT new? is that fair? I understand policy I understand business. But to me thats just straight underhanding customers. If I can goto target and get it sealed for the EXACT same price...sometimes way cheaper...*afro sam. 20$ when at gamestop was still 40$* why not do it? I would rather support my gamestores...but until they honestly support customers in the correct mannor...I just cant see doing it.
Again this is no disrespect to you mod man, or anyone else that works there...but...just doesnt seem right.

For stuff such as the wrong game in the case either go to your local store or back to the one you bought it from. If you can't make it on that day at least look at the game's receipt for that store's number and call it to explain your situation and why you can't make it back that day along with calling your local store and explaining the same thing.
GS doesn't take "I got the wrong game in my case" lightly after a day or so has gone by unless you notify the stores immediately as it just looks like you're trying to scam a free game off of the company and we'll have to kick you out of the store.
