This man just keeps impressing me. The last GTA I enjoyed was Vice City, and that was because it was my first (technically second after the fairly average GTA2) not to mention its 80s setting. GTA4 is a snorefest and I attribute its popularity to lingering mass hysteria.Nagoshi wrote:“I personally don’t like it,”

Vice City is the only GTA game I ever really got in to. GTA2 was pretty fun though.Pulsar_t wrote:http://www.seganerds.com/2009/10/18/nag ... theft-auto

Older. Not wiser.
Re: Nagoshi is not a fan of Grand Theft Auto
Some would defend SA due to the vast assortment of in-game activities and that is their right, but for me the series stopped being fun right after VC. It is true Rockstar did achieve some groundbreaking technical feats and their satire can be clever at times but this is one of those cases where you just lose interest and never look back (another example I can think of is FFX vs FFXII). Not speaking for the majority of game players of course.

I've only played the PS2 GTA games and they bored the shit out of me. I've been meaning to rent or make some burns of those games to give them another try, but I keep forgetting. Maybe I'l remember this time...

GTA III was a great game because it did something that hadn't been done before.
The formula's kind of played out these days though, and I think the franchise exhausted itself at San Andreas.
All you really need are GTA III and VC, and perhaps SA if you really can't stop at two iterations.

Re: Nagoshi is not a fan of Grand Theft Auto
I personally liked GTA2 more than any of them. The ability to choose any gang, and then turn on your gang and jump into another one at any point was great. If the more recent GTA's had that kinda freedom, I'd probably enjoy them more.
Instead, you're just stuck going down one path, with the only wiggle room being side-missions that have no impact on the story what-so-ever.

gta iii is the only one I enjoy. I just really like the atmosphere in that game, along with the characters and setting.

I'll break the mold and say I loved every single one of them. Even the London expansion was pretty good, I've been waiting for Rockstar to take it in the non-U.S. city direction again for a good long time now.

Re: Nagoshi is not a fan of Grand Theft Auto
I've played GTA III, Vice City, San Andreas, and IV. I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed them all, but I think that the series is starting to wear a little thin (which is why I think they are releasing DLC expansions as opposed to building a new game every year with the same engine like the previous titles). GTA IV was pretty good but I think I had a better time with the older games.

I enjoy both GTA and Yakuze, but I feel a little bit like it's the pot calling the kettle black.
