Vampire Killer on the MSX

Post by TheFallOfMan »

Has anyone had the chance to try this one out?
This is the only title I have not tried and it seems like Castlevania on the NES with slightly better graphics. I was wondering if there's any reason to get this one if I've already played Castlevania to the death with NES.

I would have to say that unless you are an extremely die hard castlevania fan (which if you've played the nes version to death maby you are) then the game is not worth the price tag. Not to mention that you'll probably have to get an MSX to play it as well and since those have to generally be imported you're going to be left with a big hole in your pocket :/

It's a different game. Similar gameplay, but the level layouts are different. They're set up in more of a maze. Also, there is no screen scrolling. This results in some surprise hits and not seeing what the level looks like in front of you (hence the maze effect). Slightly better graphics, but, IMO, a worse game. If you ask me, it's only worth getting for collecting purposes.

I'll agree with the previous posts. The thing that kills it for me is that jump is up. In a Castlevania game, that really sucks.

The x68000 version would be a better purchase all around.

Just emulate the msx.

I've played through the entire thing, not worth the pickup if you ask me. Emulate first and decide.
