New knockoff N64 controller on the market?

Post by fastbilly1 »

Ive never seen this one before. Anyone have any idea? If it is decent enough I may jump - though it would be for replacement parts, since I really dont want them in white...

Ofcourse my primary concern is with the joystick quality.

Chinese knock off ... I wouldn't try. I purchased one of those oXbox rip offs and it was the worse $4 I ever spent.

I am hesitant, but I cant write it off completly until someone that has one/used one can weigh in. I gave those white gamecube controllers a shot and they turned out quite decent.

Mod Man have you actually used one?

You got some of those knock-off GC controllers as well? I was surprised at the build quality, and of course it gets the nod for having the same shape as a first party one. That's the first thing that always bugs me about third party controllers that aren't special designs (like the SF4 pads on the PS3); they're just close enough to the real thing that I keep picking out the differences.

I've heard a few horror stories about these things frying controller ports and the like, but my local pawn shop usually has a few of these in stock (They tend to fuctuate between having a few of these and then a few RetroBit pads) it was a disappointing stick to say the least.

Plus at the $20 they were asking for a new one I just decided to stick with a good condition used one for $6.

If you're really into getting a better N64 controller then get the HORI mini pad, it's a Gamecube styled controller with and actual pot style analog stick instead of the mechanical one on official pads. It's licensed by Nintendo and quite a nice controller.

I already have two hori minipads, I just wanted knockoffs for convention/public use. And its getting rough on obtaining more legit ones with good sticks, replacement sticks have become more expensive than controllers, and horis are a bit too expensive for me to buy an extra four.

And Popo, I think I have 12 of those white controllers now...

The one time I bought a "New XXXX Controller" from eBay... It was a SNES controller, new in box. I got it in the mail, plugged it in, and none of the buttons worked. Actually, I think the A button worked but nothing else.

No man, its so new you just gotta break it in. A few hours of use should do the job.

The controller just looks like an original N64 official controller, resprayed to look "new".

Some third party controllers are excellent, the SuperPad 64 Plus or the MakoPad 64 are great indeed, nice to hold, great to use.

BTW, the original N64 controller was made with Super Mario 64 in mind, which is why the layout works for some games and not others.
