Source : http://forums.segaxtreme.net/showthread.php?t=32655Here is another release for all you die-hard Saturn fans
This is a port of REminiscence by cyx, an engine to play Flashback (see Mobygames) by Delphine software.
The engine requires you to have the datafiles from the pc version of the game.
You can grab binaries and sources here.
Some notes taken from the readme:For other informations, refer to the readme files included in the archive.Code: Select all
FEATURES OF THE PORT: * Controls via normal Saturn pad: - CROSS: movement - START: enter function/use inventory item - A: run/jump/action - B: extract/holster gun - X: inventory - Z: escape/in-game menu * Saving/Loading on internal saturn memory (savegames are compressed to to take up less space) * Added Saturn specific entries to in-game menu (free blocks, sram clean, mute/enable speech) * Sound is mixed on the slave SH cpu to speed up the game (afaik it has same speed AS the PC version). * Game uses a level selector instead of a password based system. * Read-ahead caching to speedup loading from cd * Modified some code to avoid caching too much game data into ram, this way the game can be played on an unexpanded Sega Saturn.
Enjoy!

Re: Flashback on Saturn !!!
What is the difference between the versions?
I know the game came out on Genesis, Sega CD, 3DO, PC, now Saturn. Which is the best version?

Oh that's just too sweet. I gotta try this out.
Playing it on my Saturn would be really cool. Nice to see some development on the system.
Re: Flashback on Saturn !!!
Cool.
Kind of strange though....are they going to be including CD quality audio tracks?

Re: Flashback on Saturn !!!
Nope as it uses the PC data files. In addition, you can put the voices from the Mega CD version. I can help you to make the CD if needed.BigTinz wrote:Cool.

Of the cartridge releases, yes.sevin0seven wrote:i believe the Atari Jaguar had the best version.
I own the Sega CD version and I would say this would probably be the best of the CD based versions of Flashback.

Is the PC version better than the sega cd version?
Re: Flashback on Saturn !!!
I'd go with the PC CD release of Flashback but if you're not too finicky this port is good enough.By default, the DOS version has an extended introductory sequence and more minor cut scenes than the Amiga version, such as when picking up items. In the Amiga version, the user can see these scenes by enabling them (although with few seconds of delay every time the animations load) or by playing the game entirely from the hard drive. The Amiga version also had an option to zoom in on the action whenever Conrad opens fire. Due to criticism of the look, it was removed from all other versions. The message that Conrad writes in the ending was also different in this release.[6] The game was originally released on 3.5" floppy disk for MS-DOS. Re-releases on CD-ROM for 3DO, CD-i, PC, and Sega CD featured redone cinematic FMVs with audible dialog and sound. The Sega CD port also has voice work for gameplay and CD tracks for each level. The Jaguar port has the title screen that these ports have, but the music is different and the look of the title screen is all that it has from the CD releases.
In North America, the Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo and Sega CD versions featured a Marvel Comics comic book within the manual in order to explain the initial story. The PAL Sega Mega Drive and Super Nintendo releases (There was no Mega-CD version.) omitted the comic and instead featured a textual prologue.
The Super Nintendo port was also censored, with New Washington's bar becoming a cafe and Death Tower being renamed Cyber Tower.
There was also a version of Flashback which included CGI cutscences, called 'Flashback: Enhanced'.

Re: Flashback on Saturn !!!
Found an interesting article about Flashback on HG101.
http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/flashb ... shback.htm
It says the SEGA CD to be the best version as its the only one to feature full voices and CD soundtrack but it says the CG cutscenes are worst. I only recall playing the PC disk version, will have to give CD versions a try since I really loved that game.
