All games load as audio cds after modchip

Post by dark79 »

I just got my modchip from racketboy a couple days ago and installed it on a fully working Model 2 32-pin Saturn. I tried the normal way of soldering the black wire to pin #14 and also tried the A+B method. Both ways result in all games loading up as audio cds. Strangely enough the audio tracks play perfectly, I just can't run the game itself.

I removed the mod, and my original games load up just fine again.

I think a few others have had this problem but so far no one's come up with a solution.

Help?

Did you happen to go through all of this?:

Yep. But just in case, I'm desoldering the A+B setup and trying the regular way but replacing the wires and trying pin 0019

Ok -- keep me posted.
If it doesn't work, I'll be glad to replace it for you.
(Just email me for details)

I only replaced one of the cables but the problem is still there. Going to try replacing the signal cable next. I fiddled with it yesterday and I was able to get the "Load application" icon to appear in the CD player, but when I pressed it, the CD would spin and attempt to load but then stay in the CD player (though the load application button stayed). Most of the time though, it was just the standard "Set CD+G" channel button which is the standard button on audio cds.

If this next trick doesn't work, I'll e-mail you for replacement.

Success!

Once I removed the signal wire and replaced it with some heavier gauge wire (the only thing I had laying around was 22AWG which is a little too thick), I was able to get the modchip to work correctly and boot games (original and CD-R) correctly.

really? wow -- I've never heard of it being an issue with the wire!
Who'd have thought? I mean all of the wire on all of them are pretty much the same.
Good for future reference, I guess.

Glad you got it working!
