Yawn. Who else guesses that SMB.3 will be numero uno?

When you focus on US-only releases and ignore the rest of the world, it gets hard to really throw any nice surprising titles into the mix. As I stated before, it's a damn shame IGN took such a narrow approach.

Some of the things that kind of blew my mind:

--Mega Man series taking up 6% of the list! Was it really necessary to feature every one of them? In my mind, once a series peaks (i.e. the 2nd and 3rd ones) why bother going further.

--Castlevania II at #25? The game made some interesting innovations, but the level designs are SO frickin' uninspired and boring. And given all the backtracking and traveling you'll be doing in the game, that's a lot of dull levels!

--Adventure Island II at #29? It does have a certain simplistic charm, but it's hard to believe this would make the upper third or the list, especially when the NES library is so damn large and gems like Gun-Nac, Pirates!, Battle of Olympus, Ultimate Stuntman, and Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu didn't even make the list at all.

I agree. If they were going to put every megaman title on there they should have put ducktales 2 on there too.

Im curious as to what non american release games you would see fit to add to the list. Ive got some in mind but Id like to see some other suggestions.

I've refrained from looking at this list so far. I really never read IGN. I'll have to look at this now that it's done though. ALL the MM games? Yeah, that's a dumb move, even with 100 spots. Adventure Island has always been lame IMO. Really simplistic with ugly graphics. Never understood why so many people like it, even considering nostalgia goggles.

+1.

There are some pretty decent games on the list, but I kept thinking, "All of these games are better than Batman Returns?".

My favorite non-US releases are listed here:

In particular, I have to give a shout-out to Just Breed and Crisis Force, but I'm sure there are many other Japan-only releases deserving of a place on the list. There are only so many fan translations, though. As with everything on the site, it's a work in progress.

I like your top 10 lists. You should check out Samurai Showdown on 3do though, it's technically superior to the one you have listed.

I can understand the nostalgia factor here, but really, The first zelda isn't that good IMO. I mean, i can understand it being on the list, I know it revolutionary and what not, but really, I just found it frustrating as crap to go back to today. Where most first party nintendo nes games are timeless I always found that this one aged like crap.

Yet again, on the list I can understand, but in the top 5? Dumb.
Don't that just look oh so tasty?
