This is by far the funniest thing I ever heard and I'm as big a Dreamcast fan as the next guy but this story is lulz. Also there are tons of fans of other systems who express what Dreamcast fans do over the wonderful system but comon Sega that study is just stupid.

Yay, another person label!

I never really got into the dreamcast :/ Granted I never really got into anything when it was in its prime save the original gameboy and that was only really because of pokemon. Anywho, back to my point, I bought a dreamcast about a year and a half ago (for the shmups which I also didnt think were that great) and the only thing that really stood out to me was the fact that you could pirate games so easily on it. Not even sure what I was originally trying to get at anymore. FUCK. Anyway I think its rediculous to say that someone has a mental disease just becasue they seriously prefer one thing over another (please note that I did not actually read the article and have no real idea what its about)
EDIT: just went and read the article and its clearly a hoax. I can see where some things, for instance the inability to move on, could be considered some sort of mental problem but as a whole theres no way this article is serious.
I would like to note that I took a high mg dosage of aderol a few hours ago and would like to appologize for the nonsensical rants that are likely to appear on the message boards from me tonite :]

Has to be a joke article...
If not... wow... wait... just what? If the study is true it's simply a poor attempt at insulting the lingering fans away so they can get back making shitty Sonic games.
On the serious side of discussion:
I think there are two main reasons the Dreamcast still has such a hard core fan base as opposed to other "dead" systems.
1. The Boba Fett factor: Boba got maybe 10 mins of screen time in the original trilogy. But something about him clicked with fans. People felt he had more potential and deserved a deeper story or a bigger role. This character with such a small roll (originally) spawned years of fan fiction and speculation. The Dreamcast suffered a similar fate in the retail arena. Fans want closure.
2. Exclusive games: There are still mountains of great games on the Dreamcast that have never been ported to another system and probably never will be. Where am I going to go if I want to play Jet Set/Grind Radio? Has there been another Tokyo Xtreme Racer on par with 2? You want me to buy a JP Xbox 360 to collect a small number of the shmups I can easily obtain on my $20 Dreamcast? Do you really think Canon Spike is every going to appear on another system? Hell, for the longest time the Dreamcast was the only place you could go for 3rd Strike at home.

General Chaos wrote:In all seriousness, it does seem like DC fans in particular are some of the absolutely most devoted retro-system followers. Why is that? I know we have quite a few in our midst here.
If you compare the DC with P2 & Wii, it doesn't really look retro so why not stopping to play it ?
