it's a pretty cool game. sega-16 wrote a pretty good review on it a while back - it's much more simple than something like radiant silvergun or ikaruga, but it's pretty awesome!

fire shark
anyone played fire shark? it's an underrated shmup for the genesis. i had some friends over playing my new copy and they were glued to it for about an hour and a half i'm guessing. the best scene i saw while cooking breakfast was this crazy claw-like beam that shot pretty much all over the screen! it was insane! somehow though, my friend still managed to get destroyed while having that weapon and lost it after getting all blowed up

Re: fire shark
So I recently picked this up and played through it - it is probably now my favorite vert shmup on the Genesis. When fully upgraded, the flame thrower weapon is insane!
Is Truxton in a similar vein?

Hell yeah, Truxton!fastbilly1 wrote:I remember Fireshark being decent, most of my vertical Genesis shumping is Truxton.
Yes, they're both developed by Toaplan and have similar gameplay mechanics (though, I heard Truxton is more difficult).dsheinem wrote:Is Truxton in a similar vein?

It's certainly a fine port on the genny; it's one of my favorite genesis titles....no where near as good as the original arcade version though.
Make sure to check out the original version in mame it's incredible.
Almost anything toaplan is guaranteed good quality: Truxton, Fire Shark, Zero Wing etc...

Re: fire shark
I recently won Truxton CIB on eBay so that should arrive soon and I am really looking forward to it. I've actually read a few reviews claiming that the port of Fire Shark is better than the Arcade version...but I'll fire up MAME at some point anyway to check it out.
For now I am really getting back into Genesis shmups (I picked up Wings of Wor, Arrow Flash, and Vapor Trail recently as well) - there's something about playing shooters on this system that I really enjoy.
On a related note, does anyone play Genesis shmups with an arcade stick? I like the Genny D-Pad well enough, but might want to give a stick a shot if there's a good one - can you recommend one in particular?

I've got an Ascii Fighter Stick SG-6. I imagine stick afficianados will think its crap, and it probably is for fighting games, but unless you really want to play SF II CE or Eternal Champions I think the stick works fine for shmups and is cheap.

Re: fire shark
My friend absolutely swears by this game, saying it's one of the Genesis' best SHMUP's, but I honestly have no idea why. I've played it, and it's okay, but it's not nearly as good as quite a few other shooters on the system.

Well, there is something to be said about flying a red biplane while waggling streams of fire all over the entire screen.

I played it from start to finish about 6 months ago. It was always a favorite of mine.
