i'm looking to sell a few bits and want to be able to send out to usa anyone got any idear what company is best and cheapest?

My guess is that your standard postal service is going to be the cheapest but I could say for sure :/ all I know is whats cheapest WITHIN the united states. There's probably a web site for the government run post service (royal mail?) where you can check their rates and such.

All the above charge different amounts. You're best off phoning them up with a rough weight and size of the parcel you want to deliver (Including packaging!) and get a quote. Some charge more for bigger parcels, whereas some charge more for heavier parcels that are small. It varies from carrier to carrier.

Everytime I've bought and sold with the UK I've sent and received via Royal Mail -> USPS.

I've found FedEx, UPS , DHL, etc to be pricier.

As for quality of service... really what would quality entail? I guess some people have lost mail and the sort, but I have yet to have this misfortune. So... for all intensive purposes, it's been good for me. I know USPS (where royal mail will end up state side) supplies all the same services UPS, FedEx, and DHL have. Insurance, signed release, delivery confirmation, etc.


My other complaint with the private company services has been getting my package. Here UPS and Fedex (rarely deal with DHL) won't drop on the doorstep ever (USPS offers signed confirmation, but don't require it). I guess some people like this, but I can't stand it.

For example yesterday I got a call at 6:20 in the morning from UPS saying that I had a package being delivered that day... I had errands and the sort all day, of which this package was required (needed the certificate inside it to exchange my car title). But I couldn't leave to run my errands until the package came as I was the only person at home to sign.

I was pleased to receive the call at 6:20, checked the tracking number and it said it just left office from Riviera (the town over where the local distributor office was) so it should be here relatively soon.

4 in the afternoon the guy FINALLY showed up.

What annoyed me was that there was nothing I could do about it. I couldn't stop its first delivery and just pick it up myself (which USPS lets me do), you can't change delivery method until AFTER first delivery attempt, and if I missed it and wanted to pick it up I'd have to wait for it to show up back at there office (after 4 I guess), in which I would have to drive up to Riviera to get it (the closest redistribution office). But the office would have been closed and I wouldn't be able to get it until a future date... I would rather them just leave it on my step, I wouldn't have minded waiting until a following day to run that specific errand, but no can't do that.

Where as if I wanted to pick up my USPS parcel, it's literally ACROSS the street. Everywhere I have lived ever I had a post office with in walking distance. Not that I only walk, but hey, that's a great option! And who says state ran offices suck!?
