Best DS Flashcard?

Post by lisalover1 »

My Acekard 2i just killed my DS lite and DSi, so I'm officially done with anything AK-related. What's the best flashcard for the DS? It can either be for the DS lite or DSi, I don't care; I'll probably just send my DSi back to Nintendo and sell it; I actually prefer the DSL.

CycloDS is widely accepted as the best. They have it on Dealextreme.

This is for DSL Only not DSi

BTW, I didn't mention Edge card because it is hard to purchase these days. I have 2 of them and they have been rock solid for over a year with zero problems. They have most of the features of CycloDS (they are clones of it) for a much lower price point.

What are some of the better features that a CycloDS has? What does it have that a Edge card doesn't have?

CycloDS: Items in bold are not available on Edge.

Here is the official feature list:

Realtime save.
• Completely plug & play - no FlashMe, PassMe or PC software required
• 100% game compatibility, supports clean ROM's - works on any OS
• Full NDS download play support, including problem games such as Mario Kart DS
• Action Replay compatible cheat code engine, comes bundled with cheat codes for over 300 games!
• Uses MicroSD card, both FAT16 and FAT32 supported
• Supports the MicroSDHC specification, allowing for high capacity memory cards
• Save type is automatically detected, no need for a save type database
• Save directly to MicroSD rather than onboard flash
• User friendly, easily skinnable interface. Both touch screen and button operation supported
• Multi-lingual user interface
• "Enhanced Mode" which provides powerful, unique features during game play. Enhanced features are activated through an in-game menu. Enhanced mode features include:
• Adjust LCD brightness during game play (NDSLite only)
• SlowMotion mode which can be used to slow down game play to make fast paced action sequences easier to master

• Return to CycloDS Evolution Menu (aka soft reset)
• More features to come!
• Excellent homebrew compatibility thanks to the DLDI auto-patcher
• 2 megabytes of onboard flash memory which contains the CycloDS Evolution OS and will be utilised in the future to add exciting new features. A recovery mode is also included.
• Autoboot mode which when activated will directly boot into the last ROM or homebrew application executed
• Moonshell included to provide media playing functionality
• PassMe function (boot from slot 2)
• Supports rumble and memory expansions

CycloDS also gets more frequent updates. Edge gets most of the same updates it just takes longer.

They are both easily theme-able and have many themes readily available.

I never heard of AceKard killing a DS or any card for that matter. I think you just had a faulty DSi.

I forgot to mention, don't bother with R4 or DSTT. R4 can burn up your DS. DSTT has a lot of fakes on the market. I managed to get an original but it has problems inside of the first days use, as opposed to no problem ever on Edge.

Helpful site for reviews...

Maybe they were cheaper at one time but it seems nowadays, they're as expensive as the CycloDS but less features. I was searching for a seller and it seems that I couldn't find one less than $40. For what price did you buy yours?

I got them a long time ago when they were common. I think I paid $22 a piece for them.
