I just got this game yesterday

First impression is wow! Its amazing, I love the graphics, I love the gameplay, I love to controls, Awesome!

Second impression, the game really fucking lets down in terms of reasons to play again and again. No unlockable characters, no unlockable costumes, the stupidest fucking achievements ever (I have it on the 360), its great if you want to play the arcade version at home but other than that it really lets down.

Great fighting game, better if you like online, if not, much, much, much weaker by its lack of unlockable content.

Glad to see you at least like it for its fighting engine, but unfortunately, unlockables have gone the way of the dinosaur. All the characters in Super Street Fighter IV will be unlocked right off the bat, BlazBlue had all its characters unlocked off the bat, everybody praised the XBL/PSN version of Marvel vs Capcom 2 for having everything unlocked off the bat...

...kinda sad, honestly. Perhaps the original MvC2 overdid it, but I enjoyed doing challenges and whatnot to unlock characters in KOFXI.

Well it gave you motivation to pick up the game again, it doesn't even have to be characters, even a costume change for finishing the game with that character, or something.

I think the perfect unlockables would have been alternate movesets. Gameplay-wise, it would have been like unlocking new characters, but it wouldn't be anywhere near as hard and time-consuming as making actual new characters.

Like, imagine if you could unlock classic versions of Kyo and Iori, with their old movesets?

Well, one of the reasons that unlockables are going away is the disc and hard drive based nature of games these days. If I take my copy of Street Fighter IV to a buddy's house there are 9 members of the cast we can't use. When it was carts and memory cards you just brought the cart/card and everything was ready to go.

Yeah, but... USB Thumb Drives. C'mon.

At least, I know that they work with PS3 games, assuming the devs actually let you copy the save data. That's what pisses me off, when they prevent you from copying save data. Sons of Bitches.

Yes, you do have the USB thumb drives just like how you can use SD cards for the Wii. But they are far less convenient than the memory cards. You're already saving on the memory card; with the thumb drive/SD card you have to copy the file over, then when you get to your buddy's place copy it onto their system.

It's still bullshit, if its for a single player experience, what does bringing unlockables to your friends house really matter? All three of my friends in my 'Gaming Circle' all have memory cards for there Xbox360 and when we go to on anthers house we bring our profiles.

EDIT: The game also does not have any story (Those pissy little 'news cutscenes' dont count) so there's even less motivation to finish it with every character. I know past KOF games have not had any storyline, but they had much more content than XII.

The only unlockables I know of are is the artwork (I think its going five rounds without losing a single round, but not too sure on it). Any more?

Im not the biggest fan of the Tekken series (Or fighters in general to be honest) but at least they know how to keep you playing there games.

After reading all this I feel like I am no further ahead than I was before.

I am more of a fan of the old school Kof, mid 90s stuff...so...should I even consider trying this? At one point while reading I was like YES AWESOME!...and then I went back to well...I dont know. Are there any old KoF fans on here that are just LOVING this game?
Yep, I know im the one ya love to hate.
