Unique

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Thats it exactly - I like old games for the unique experiences I can have with them, but also I get to sample genres that have altered drastically over time or died altogether.
eg I'm playing Golden Axe atm, which was never unique or groundbreaking but I cant play a game like that for the new systems. There are similar games (like Force Unleashed) but they dont play the same as those early beat em ups.

Thus far, the most unique I can think of is Lets TAP.

It takes the wiimote, literally turns it on its side, and creates an experience that is just surreal. Ive yet to find an ideal surface to play it on though.

Blacksite: Area 51
Call of Duty 3
Haze
Gex 3
ATV Mania
Pulse Racer
Rayman Racing
Final Fantasy Mystic Quest

a few others in a similar vein come to mind as truly unique...

I think you're just looking for someone to disagree with you. I am not going to take the bait, oh how I want to.

There are tons of indie games that are unique but nobody hears of them, including subtlety named games such as "Shit Game". A few 'more mainstream' games I'd consider unique would be:
Vib-Ribbon
Vangers: One For the Road
Katamari Damacy
Killer7
Rez
Jurassic Park: Trespasser

The first games that come to mind as easily playable, enjoyable and unique are Pacman, Tetris, Another World, and Rez - tho that probably just means I haven't played or can't remember their predecessors - rant follows:
The main thing with good games is that they all take bits from other games and put the right mix, twist or sometimes even polish to make them excellent. All games can be traced back to one or more lesser-known or much older titles that preceded them. No matter if they got it right or didn't.
I bet you can even measure the ratio of uniqueness-to-fun-factor of games by the amount of copycat/shovelware games that followed them. It would make for an interesting ranking system if someone were to attempt it. Factoring in how much money was made by the first one with the idea would throw a wrench in the gears. Indie games revolutionize the industry and are only recently getting the recognition and payback they deserve.

Maybe, but I am not looking for the white psONE , I am looking for the gray PSX
Good ones seem pretty rare given there are a $100 million of them.
