What happened to my damn dreamcast lightgun?

I had an urge to play some lightgun games on my dreamcast and i went inside my accessories drawer, when i took out my madcats lightgun it was discolored! i couldnt believe it, it's half yellow and half grey! how did this happen?...can i fix this?
