Re: you should probably listen to these bands
yeah i purposely didn't identify a genre. i listen to a lot of music.
there's only two "screamo" bands on that list anyway. two hardcore bands, one punk band, and, as stated, one prog metal band.
it's just what i've been listening to lately. nothing more, nothing less.

Re: you should probably listen to these bands
ugh, screamy, whiny, annoying, generic rock. No thank you.
Should I probably listen to them? I'm wondering why... is there a reason I should probably listen to them? Are they new and progressive, do they create a fresh and amazing sound unheard before? Is there a message I can learn from them?
Or are they just bands you like. In that case no, I probably shouldn't listen to them unless we happen to have very similar taste in music. And with the wide variety of it out there... the statistical chance is slim. So "should" I "probably" listen, no... I "may want to check out if I like this style of music".
if that statement bothers you... well don't worry, I listen to creepy repetative ugly and generic industrial and electronic music.

i know what kind of music you listen to, you've made it pretty apparent before, it matters not.lordofduct wrote:ugh, screamy, whiny, annoying, generic rock. No thank you.

i feel like in order to call something generic you kind of have to be well-versed in the subject, or in this case, the genre. if you've listened to a LOT of surf bands, you'll know when someone is just playing "generic" surf-rock. if your surf knowledge is about 15 seconds on dick dale's myspace profile, then you're less than knowledgeable on what is "progressive" and what is "generic."
but yeah, they are just bands i like and have been listening to lately, like i said earlier.
"do what you do."

that last part wasn't directed towards you, sorry, i just get frustrated when people identify anything with someone screaming as screamo, because thats not how it worksSnickerd00dle wrote:Isis is really good, i saw them when they opened for Tool a few years ago, thats a prog metal band, not screamo---if you want to attempt to identify a genre, get it rightaaron wrote:i've been listening to these bands a lot lately and felt i should share.

Re: you should probably listen to these bands
I saw Isis live in 06 when they opened for Tool. I didnt care much for them.
As far as not listening to a band because they post on myspace........um you do realize that every major band (old or new) has a myspace music page. Look up just about any band that you like and I will nearly guarantee they have a myspace page. Granted a lot of the homebrew, garage bands that are on myspace suck, but social networking is going to be the new way music is promoted. Long gone will be the record labels as they lose artists that can self promote using website such as myspace.
anyway, keep up the posts. I love to hear about new music.

If that part was directed at me, I was saying that I wish I was told genre the bands were so that I didn't have to click on them to find out what genre they are.Snickerd00dle wrote:that last part wasn't directed towards you, sorry, i just get frustrated when people identify anything with someone screaming as screamo, because thats not how it worksSnickerd00dle wrote:Isis is really good, i saw them when they opened for Tool a few years ago, thats a prog metal band, not screamo---if you want to attempt to identify a genre, get it rightaaron wrote:i've been listening to these bands a lot lately and felt i should share.

somebody read the pitchfork review!Anubis wrote: Girls - Album - This is some great laid back surf rock. It never tries to be too complex, and results in some good easy listening.
Beach Boys - Pet Sounds - Well known album, but if you haven't listened to it, DO IT NOW.
I wouldn't quite call it surf rock though, listen to some dick dale and link wray and that's the type of sound typified by the genre. If you want it laid back, try the big lazy, a lesser known group that is just amazing.
Anyways, its certainly a fun album, it does have a surf influence that makes it stand out, and the lyrics are just fun. I second the recommendation whole heartedly. My favorite album as of late is the new album by the XX , great if you love blond redhead or the ravonettes I'd definitely check it out.
Don't that just look oh so tasty?
