Kingdom Hearts RE: Chains of Memory

I beat Kingdom Hearts waaay back when it came out - never played the gba chains of memory. Then I played Kingdom Hearts 2 when that came out - I had no clue what was going on. Now that CoM has been released here fir the ps2, I'm thinking of picking it up so I can actually understand KH2. I started playing KH again, and I'll play the new CoM next...

Has anyone played the ps2 remake yet? How did you like it? I know the card battles put some people off, but I figure it's cheap enough to give it a shot, plus I want to know what the hell is actually happening in KH2 this time around,

I've not played CoM, but I do have to ask how far you got into KH2? I too was very confused, but once the Roxas story is through, it starts to be comprehensible.

I actually own CoM on the GBA, but I couldn't quite get into the card system at the time (bought it about a week after release). I probably wasn't quite ready for it, but have now played other games similar to it and should be able to manage this time around. I've got the remake in my sights too, though it'll have to wait until I get through my ridiculous backlog!!

I didn't play the new chain of memories, but i played it on the GBA and really loved it.

It was the first card RPG that I played. I was really resistant to that RPG trend that was happening. It seemed like every game to come out for a year or so was cardbased. So it took me a while to really understand how to use the cards effectively, as i had to learn a whole new system. That is a little daunting. However, after i figured it out, i really REALLY liked it. It is probably my favorite of all the KH games (haven't played the ds one yet). That extra dimension of strategy when you build your own deck and how you play that deck made the game so much deeper then 'tap X to hit the guy with your keyblade and win'

It was the reason i got KH2 after enjoying, but not really loving KH1.

I think I'm in the minority though.

I've been meaning to pick up RE:COM for a long time now and play through the whole thing with a fresh coat of paint on it. I can't imagine they went too wrong with it after getting the gba game so right. If anything, you would think the gba game would be a little wonky.

I figure I might like the card battles - I spent like 30 hours on Card Fighter's Clash over the last few weeks - I think that was my first real card video game, though I'm sure it's battle system and CoM's are totally different.

Does anybody know if this game is going to get a European release?

I can find plenty of links on google saying all kinds of dates, some in the future and some in the past.

Is there any way of getting the US version to work on a PAL softmodded PS2 without having to rip/patch/burn the disc?
