DS Error 0000FEFE
I turned on my DSi this morning to find an error message. The upper screen was white, except for the error code at top, and the bottom screen was completely blank. I've encountered this problem before, but I could usually just restart the system a few times, and it would start working again. This time, it didn't. I know Nintendo says the only way to fix this is to send it in, but is there any other way?
Re: DS Error 0000FEFE
The only thing I can think of trying would be to boot without an SD card in if you've been booting with one in. If that doesn't work then I'd send it in. I don't think there's really anything else you can do.

Re: DS Error 0000FEFE
Isn't that a bootloader error? Sounds like you need to get it repaired by Nintendo.
Yep, just checked, 0000FEFE is a bootsector integrity failure. Get it repaired. There's nothing you can do.

Good news, it's working again! I have no idea why it's working now. I just tried restarting it over and over, and eventually it must have just snapped itself back to normal.

It may work for now, but it'll stop working sooner or later. You have corruption on the flash chip that stores the bootloader meaning that if it can brick itself completely it will.lisalover1 wrote:Good news, it's working again! This just makes me even more glad I stuck with my DS Lite. I am pretty confident that thing will work for decades. Just like all my other Gameboys.

Well your unit will work, but the sad fact that Nintendo used flash as the primary storage medium for the DS game cards means that they'll start degrading and corrupting as they suffer from bit rot over time unlike GBA games which use Mask ROMs which will last for and indefinite amount of time unless physically destroyed by some force.Niode wrote:This just makes me even more glad I stuck with my DS Lite. Re: DS Error 0000FEFE
send it in anyway. while you still have a warranty on it. otherwise you will be up shit creek without a paddle if it croaks later on when the warranty is expiredlisalover1 wrote:Good news, it's working again! Good job I don't buy my DS games anymore for this very reason isn't it?Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:Well your unit will work, but the sad fact that Nintendo used flash as the primary storage medium for the DS game cards means that they'll start degrading and corrupting as they suffer from bit rot over time unlike GBA games which use Mask ROMs which will last for and indefinite amount of time unless physically destroyed by some force.Niode wrote:This just makes me even more glad I stuck with my DS Lite. This bit rot will apply to SSDs and SD cards as well, won't it?
