Gaming tournements

Post by wyatt »

Anyone ever enter gaming tournements? I tried once for SSBM, me and my wife both intended to compete, requested the day off work in advance... we were the only people that showed at the store for it, what a letdown.

A guy at my job won a Star Fox championship held at Disneyworld once, wayyyy back when it first came out on SNES. Prize was a brand new Gameboy, back when it looked like a brick hehe.

Mostly I only see Smash Bros or FPS competitions, but some kind of well-rounded championship that combines fighting, racing, FPS etc in some scoring system would be fun.

It would be cool if all of us that have online capable consoles make a tournament of some sort. I think everyone nowadays have a decent internet connection. Thats just a thought.... 8)

And to your subject i once participated in a blockbuster here in a nba jam tournament the winner had a $50 coupon to rent video games or movies there.

And one time my group of friends we all put money and bought a walkman and I remember I was the first one in buying a super nintendo and had street fighter II and we made a competition. No I didnt won the walkman, after that I remember I played street fighter for 1 year and a half straight not playing anything else just to get better hehe

I've entered a few Super Mario World tournys way back, won both actually the price was a SNES both times. Since I already had one I returned it to Kmart.

I used to do some local FPS tournys, did fairly well in a few. But nothing major. The game was usually Quake 3. I kinda got out of FPS after Q3.

Also some Capcom vs Snk 2 tournys, but there are so many people far better than me so I never really one those, maybe top 20 out of like 100 people. So many people have played SF2 competitively since the very start and keep going, so its tough competition.

I really would have liked to get in on some Smash at some point. I could have done pretty well. Back when I owned a gamecube, when I was in my prime, I should have looked around online for any tourneys. But I didnt have a car back then, so I guess it wouldn't have mattered.

I'm still pretty good. Out of the 10 or so people I know who play smash, I can still win 3/4ths of the time in our 4-player matches, and I'm the only dude who doesn't own the game or system presently. And I win not just by surviving, but by most kills as well. Some would say Ganondorf is cheap, but we all know they're just intimidated by his tremendous bulge.

I use to compete, but nowadays everything is CAL or MLG, or just pathetic. Really the reason I got out of competitions is that I enjoy playing games with friends more than anything else. I do have one stipulation for me doing more in the future. If the competition is in something that actually requires abstract thinking, strategy, and skill at the same time, ej Alien Vs Predator Gold, or if Twin Galaxies starts back up the Video Game Olympics.

Super Smash Brother fans are quite a ranceous lot, but Halo fans are still the worse. They got mad at me when started to lean forward so out of the corner of thier eyes they saw me staring at them. Its not my fault Halo is a very slow FPS, but then again I do plan on making a 6-8 inch trackball so I can play FPS with my feet, and I have taken 1st and 4th in a UT2k4 tourney...simply put I aint wired up right.
