Metroid Fusion pre-release screenshots?

Post by HellHammer »

After missing it when it came out, recently I (finally) got around to beating Metroid Fusion. I enjoyed it so much, I wanted to buy a copy for a friend of mine who also loves Super Metroid and also missed out on Fusion. I did a quick Google search for it, and on the Wiki page there is a really ugly GB Color looking screen, apparently taken during development. Looks different enough.

Then I found game stop's page for it, HERE, and after flipping through the screens I noticed several differences from the final game. The map looks slightly odd. And what's that little circle radar thing about? Or that big block Samus is shooting at? And life bars...in Metroid?!

I don't remember this enemy being in the game at all:

Anyway, I enjoyed the hell out of Fusion and recommend it to anyone who enjoyed Super Metroid. I found these seemingly pre-release/in development screens pretty interesting and thought I would share!

While we are on the topic of interesting Metroid tidbits a couple of hackers found an almost completely working Crocomire in Metroid Zero Mission.

and then of course something a lot of people may not have seen.

Which is a beta pic of Kraid who was originally intended to be in the Phazon Mines in Metroid Prime

I have always wondered why you would go that far into programming a boss that would obviously please your target fanbase, and then bail on it completely. How hard would have been to make a room for them.

Oops, you're completely right. He does look slightly different though, which is why I didn't recognize him to begin with.

How cool! I had to watch that Zero Mission video like 3 times in a row, haha. It reminds me of the secret 'extra boss' those hackers found in Mother 3. Thanks for sharing!

Because you decided that trying to shoehorn in that content will be bad for the game. For example, if you can't think of a good reason to put Kraid in the Phazon Mines other than "Cause he's cool" then it's better to leave him out. There also might have been issues with the actual boss fight that made it not fun. People have an expectation of how a Kraid fight is supposed to go, and trying to replicate that in 3D might not be as enjoyable as in 2D.

I know its a pretty late reply but Kraid was a species on Zebes and it is already stated throughout the game that they collected several species from all the planets they went to. I think its completely possible he would be there.
