I can't seem to force myself to be excited for the new Zelda

Post by HellHammer »

Spirit Tracks has got to be the only Zelda game I've ever not been ecstatic over. And I mean that. My dad started it with the first two games, and I've been obsessed since A Link to the Past. All the way up to the Phantom Hourglass, I've pre-ordered each game, waited in lines, and even picked up the strategy guides. It's become a bit of an occasion over the years. But yet with this new game, I can't even force myself to be excited for it. Now that there is a small amount of word of mouth talk (and hell, it comes out in like 3 months, someone should be talking about it by now) I've found myself to be resentful toward the game. I do my best not to troll the game before I've even played it, but I already want to complain.

Nintendo has done very little to hype or even gain interest in the newest title, and as many gaming sites have pointed out, they don't need to, it's ZELDA and it's the DS.

But I'm curious if anyone here feels as 'meh...' about it as I do?
If so, to what do you attribute the lackluster feeling?

ninty stopped bothering promoting zelda games, after it's best efforts failed to sell as much as other games (see windwaker, and TP, even though personally I didn't like TP)

I also feel nothing for this new Zelda. I call it "The Twilight Princess Effect".

Uninspired is exactly how I'm seeing it. Again, I don't want to bash the game before I've even played it, but I was horribly, terribly disappointed by Phantom Hourglass (First Zelda I've had to force myself to play through) and this looks to be a PH re-hash, of sorts. Although, maybe they'll add an option for actual D-pad/button control this time, which'd lessen the sting a little. I guess I just can't appreciate the new 'charm' that WW style Zelda games have.

I'm completely with you. It seems once nintendo settled in the style/substance department they just kinda throw in a gimmick to the same zelda game. OH! this game is NEW! Look! a train! yeah... no thanks.

I long for the days where they were really trying new things. Oracle of seasons/ages. minish cap. majora's mask. Wind waker. All of these took zelda to a new place. I haven't enjoyed a zelda game for a while now.

You shouldn't have to force your self to be excited for the new Zelda. If you are good, if not what does it matter?
I for one will be getting it because the sameness is what I love in the series. I like feeling like its the same game but new. The added stuff are usaully my least favorite aspect. For instance:
LoZ: MM The time factor that got on my nerves the most
Minish cap shrinking, to be honest it didn't make the game better or worse.
Windwaker sailing, again it didn't make or break this game it just was
TP the wolf parts were my least favorite
and I am sure in the new one I am not going to like the train parts but overall as long as I get the Zelda experience I will be happy.
Where's my chippy? There's my chippy.

I really didn't enjoy Phantom Hourglass, so I doubt Spirit Tracks will do much for me either.
