Alone in the Dark: The new nightmare
Alone in the Dark: The new nightmare
So, after reading Ack's latest article I remembered that this game was on my wish list at one point, so which version should I get PS1 or Dreamcast?
Re: Alone in the Dark: The new nightmare
While I have never played the PSX version, I own both the PC and Dreamcast versions. I find that I like the Dreamcast version better that the PC. It is much easier to control, plus it looks and sounds a little better. If I were you I would go with the Dreamcast version!
Life is as good as your game!
Re: Alone in the Dark: The new nightmare
Having played both the PS1 and DC versions(and owning the DC version), I would say go with the Dreamcast. It's prettier, the controls are solid, and the experience overall felt a lot better to me. I've had a couple of freezing issues, but I think that's more my DC being finicky than anything else.

All I know is that the Game Boy Color counterpart is terrible

Well it looks like the Dreamcast is the way to go then. Its a bit more expensive at the minute though.
Does it have any extra features or is it just the better presentation and controls that makes the diference

Not to my knowledge, unfortunately. I believe the only one that was in any way different was the Game Boy Color port, and that one, while impressive that it's on a handheld, isn't very good.

Re: Alone in the Dark: The new nightmare
Bought this on Dreamcast for 5 bucks when Wal-mart was dumping all their stock of DC games years back.
Played it, got REALLY bored of it, and never played it again. I loved the original Alone in the Dark on 3DO, and the second was pretty good on the Saturn and 3DO. But this one annoyed the piss out of me.
See little things about the original that'd make it hard (buggy code and the sort) didn't bother me, because well, it was like the first of its kind. I can't expect perfection. But by the time this one came out, we've had several incarnations of RE and SilentHill... the had a pretty high standard to go up against, the they barely tried... the shit was so damn buggy in places. Oh and the biggest annoyance, monsters reapearing if you re-entered a room. There was this stupid hallway with like 6 frankenstein's monster looking guys in it that took I don't know how many bullets (that I didn't have)... I had to go up and down this stupid hallway over and over, and every time these stupid bastards ughing about and waiting for me. Drove me bonkers! Others told me I was supposed to just run right by them... oh so there's this hallways you have to visit a few times will creatures in it that can kill you really fast, and you just have to continually run by them? How freakin' boring is that!?

Funny thing is, I know exactly what hallway you're talking about, and I was quite pissed about them respawning after I'd just wasted so many shotgun shells on them. Then the game froze, and I just stopped playing. Been meaning to go back, but it's not high on my priorities.lordofduct wrote:Bought this on Dreamcast for 5 bucks when Wal-mart was dumping all their stock of DC games years back.
