My 13 month-old son's new thing now is to bring books to my wife and I and make a whiny "huh" noise. This "huh" noise means he wants to us to read that book to him.
Tuesday while I was at work my wife texted me saying that Cal brought her the Sonic game for the Wii and started whining "huh."
He wanted to play.
When I got home Cal did the same to me, but instead of putting in the horrible Sonic and Secret Rings game I pulled out the Smash Pack for the Dreamcast and loaded up the original Sonic the Hedgehog.
Cal figured out that the buttons made Sonic jump. He loved watching the Hedgehog jump and loved the "boing" noise made when Sonic jumped even more. The game held his interest for about 5 minutes, until he decided it would be more fun to pull out and put back the controller plug.
Here is an image of my 13 month-old son playing Sonic the Hedgehog for the first time:

haha well played bringing him the original
Re: Playing Sonic the Hedgehog for the first time.
The TV's too tall compared to him, no wonder he can't hold an interest in it.

He was playing while sitting in "his" chair at first (the chair is not shown in the pic since its farther away) but by the time I went to get the camera he was making his way closer to the TV.MrPopo wrote:The TV's too tall compared to him, no wonder he can't hold an interest in it.
Yeah the pic was taken after a couple minutes... he never did figure out the analog stick or dpad except by accident.

That is so awesome! My two year old is becoming quite the gamer as well. He is really into Duck Hunt and World Class Track Meet for the NES. He loves running on the power pad, its so funny.

Re: Playing Sonic the Hedgehog for the first time.
Im thinking I need to let him try the NES, or at least play Sonic on the Genesis in the basement where the TV isn't so high as MrPopo pointed out.
Only thing is I don't think he can play World Class Track Meet since I don't have a power pad and he doesnt walk yet - only 4-5 steps at a time.

They usually go for about $20. If you do end up getting one just hold onto his hands and let him run like a madman!SpaceBooger wrote:Im thinking I need to let him try the NES, or at least play Sonic on the Genesis in the basement where the TV isn't so high as MrPopo pointed out.

There goes another Dreamcast huh? lolSpaceBooger wrote:The game held his interest for about 5 minutes, until he decided it would be more fun to pull out and put back the controller plug.
I've gone through two DC's already just because of those god forsaken weak controller port fuses.

You do know that it's literally a five minute fix to get those DC's controller ports back up and running, right?Weekend_Warrior wrote:There goes another Dreamcast huh? lolSpaceBooger wrote:The game held his interest for about 5 minutes, until he decided it would be more fun to pull out and put back the controller plug.
