Cool classroom moment

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

The rest of them just kind of laughed along with the speaker, since other topics resulted in quirky/funny speeches also.

I don't know that I try to keep it a secret, per se, it just doesn't really come up in class. I have talked about gaming in several of my critical theory/methods courses and have had students decide to write essays about various games as cultural objects - but I don't think any of them know to what extent I am a gaming geek. I've never discussed my 32X collection, favorite genres, or anything like that in class.

I do remember some students being surprised last semester when I indicated I've played recent games like COD4, Killzone 2, or Bioshock. They probably don't have many profs who game regularly.

Actually, I just remembered that in the spring I had all the students in one advanced class for the major (which meets in a computer lab) download Doom and play it for about 20 minutes so we could talk about how various critical terminology that we had used to discuss photos, film, etc. (e.g. form, content, space, time, dispersal, various ideological perspectives, and so on) could be applied to the study of games, game design, interactive media, etc. It was cool to watch about 25 students playing Doom all at one time, even if some of them couldn't get the hang of it.

No, I had them download an actual full copy of the game that I had located and put on a class website (Doom95.exe, I think it was). I also walked them through deleting it after installing it, so that future students in the classroom wouldn't kill class time fragging imps.

Now I'm curious as to what the other topics are.
