i play RPG's because they are the lazy man's friend. you generally only need to press buttons to get through menus and move your character around. good stories are nice, but for me it's more about if battling is any fun or are the character designs good. i enjoy the structure of RPG games.
if you play too many of them, you might get bored quick since they all share very similar elements, but i tend to space them out because for one, i dont have the time like i used to. and two, cliches can make me yawn.
but i would say a lot of RPG's are on the top of my favorite games list.
