The other thing is: completing an entire game set would require you to own games that a reasonable person would be ashamed to own. Barbie Horse Adventures? Gotta buy that too!

I must have issues, I am well over half way through Genesis and just about half of the NES. I am gonna skip the limited release carts, I am just going for standard release games.
Also, some have variations, so one or the other is fine by me. There are also a ton of sports games and most are bad.
It feels good though when I sit back and see over 300 Genesis carts hanging on the wall. I need to post pics when I get it all set up nicely. I have a huge backlog of games to clean.
It is a challenge and my ultimate goal is to have all the Sega sets. That may be impossible, but it gives me something to do.

You know, I've thought about that a few times when I've picked up things like Power Rangers games. And then I get home and play them, and discover that people that worry about being ashamed of games miss out on some pretty nifty stuff.dedalusdedalus wrote:The other thing is: completing an entire game set would require you to own games that a reasonable person would be ashamed to own. I have the 32X complete set of carts and just need three more boxes (Toughman Contest, BC Racers, Spider-Man) to have everything boxed...
And actually, my set isn't completely complete. I still don't have Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV (JPN only) or Darxide (very limited UK release), nor do I have the prototypes for Virtua Hamster or the X-Men game (who does?!) - but I DO have everything else including all the CD/32X games and the Virtua Fighter training pack CIB.
I've recently entertained picking up the entire PS1 longbox set (anyone with some longbox games they'd trade, send me a PM!), and have worked on other things from time to time (e.g. all PS2 shmups, all retro collections, etc.).
Oh, and I am also kind of still working on getting a boxed copy of every Madden game released for every platform ever.

Re: Is anyone trying to complete an entire game set....
I've made master lists that suite me for each system. This way I don't have to touch the crap games that come out that I'd be embarrased to play. Still adds up to hundreds of games for each system but it's easy to weed out the ones I don't need.
Like Ack I'd recommend picking a genre within a system and finish that off. I'm working on RPGs for snes right now and the only high dollar one I'm still missing is Lufia 2.

I saw your shame. I still have a sealed copy of Madden Football for the Tandy1000.

Re: Is anyone trying to complete an entire game set....
I don't want to try for any complete sets for several reasons. However, I think the biggest reason is how ill-defined the goal is. Any time you set a goal like "every NES game," you end up having to compromise, and you have caveats like only having one version of Impossible Mission II, or owning a reproduction of NWC. That would drive me mad.
Systems: TI-99/4a, Commodore Vic-20, Atari 2600, NES, SMS, GB, Neo Geo MVS (Big Red 4-slot), Genesis, SNES, 3DO, PS1, N64, DC, PS2, GBA, GCN, NDSi, Wii
Re: Is anyone trying to complete an entire game set....
I found I have to set a reasonable goal. I dont want non official release, special edition or non US releases. I want one each of every regularly released game.
For those trying, keep in mind what I have decided, completeness is based on what is complete for me.
I like the ones who had made up their own set. Like a fighter set or RPG set. I may do that with some of them, it would save me some money LOL.
By the way, I have a nice Gex in the longbox, get those new items up and we can work a trade!

I didnt see the madden thing the first time, that is awesome. They are great games, no shame. I would like to see a pic of that!
