So today I bought a SNES with 2 cons and Super Mario World - $20. A steal. Unfortunately, on the way home from buying it, some spitfuck stopped short and I had to slam on the brakes. The console slid of my seat and slammed into the dash. Now when I turn it on, it won't light up unless I hold it in a certain position, if it even powers on at all. Something must be loose inside, I'm hoping it's an easy fix. So my question to you all is, would anyone be willing to let me borrow their 4.5mm security bit? I would glady send it back as soon as I'm finished. I think you could just mail it in an envelope with a few stamps, I can't imagine them being that heavy. Can anyone help me out?

Can anyone lend me a hand with a 4.5mm security bit?

If no one lets you borrow one, I myself modded my SNES a few weeks ago without one.
If you use a Bic pen, heat up the end of it so it starts to melt a bit push it REALLY hard against the gamebit screw, keep pushing down on it until you think it is dry, then using the cap from a coke bottle on the top of the pen (so you dont hurt your palm) and pliers to turn the pen while still pushing down on the pen you can unscrew them one by one, I got my girlfriend to hold the SNES while I did this and had it opened in 5 mins. You may have to do this for every screw, for me I got away with usually 2 or 3 screws per melting. But it always worked using the above method for at least a screw at a time.
After you have it open, go down to your hardware store and get phillip heads in the same size.
Hope it helps.

Did you start saying spitfuck after watching zombieland?

I find the BIC pen has to be remelted after each use too. Might I suggest, get them off with the BIC method than take them to a hardware store for a philips head replacement. This way you don't have to put them back on using the pen and if you wanna take them off again it'll be simple rather than a project.

So I am pretty sure that is the coolest trick I have heard all week. Don't know what that says about everything else I've heard so far haha

If you dip the pen in ice water right after you mold it it lasts a bit longer

I recently bought both the 4.5 and the 3.8mm bits on ebay for 4$

Yeah, I was gonna suggest just buying the bits. They're so cheap anyways, and you'll have them forever if you ever got to use them again.

jfe2 recommended this site to me for NES supplies, parts and tools. The prices don't seem that bad.
