Gaming for science!

Post by J T »

...and money. I just got $10 bucks for participating in a study about gamers at the University of Washington. They had me do this computerized attention task where a blue dot appears on a screen for a tiny fraction of a second before the screen fills with tons of tiny black and white pixels. You had to hit a directional key for where the dot appeared on an 8-point axis. The first few trials, I couldn't even see it, but I adapted after awhile. I got the 8th place high score. :)

I go back in for another session on Friday. They will debrief about the study's purpose then. I'll have to let you guys know more about this as it develops.

Ahhh, so that's what the study was. Someone mentioned it on our internal gaming email list but I decided the money wasn't worth the time I'd have to spend.

Yes, but were you able to enter your initials on the high score list? Will this game be getting a console port?

Reminds me of when that U.N. game about helping people in disaster zones was put on the Internet a few years ago, and several friends and I would put up clan tags before our initials whenever we played it.
