What he said. One or two of the tabs broken off where you see the orange rubber ring isn't terrible as long as the 3 ball bearings are still there to hold the disc. But it will make it a little off balance. Should I try the pot tweak if I have no voltmeter handy?
If it does not help I'm thinking of buying a new cd-reader maybe. Which model is the right one for 5502? I could probably get it adjusted at a console repair shop in town, but is it worth it?
Also, I tried running cd's with open cover, holding down the sensor, to see how the disc spins. From what i saw, it seems to change speeds poorly and can't maintain high speeds constantly. Also it does not sound right, like some clicking or something, i don't know how to describe it.

I presume you're used to the bubbly blue one?
Most PS1s I've used have the grey menu, including the PSone which has modified icons. I agree that the blue one is nicer, but it uses a lot of the English language, which for someone growing up in Europe (as I did) can cause issues. Therefore, the icons of the bland, grey BIOS were preferred. Or maybe there's another reason. Beats me. I had a launch UK PS1, and it had that menu. Friend's later model had the blue one. Later PSone was grey with different icons. Someone more knowledgeable and less lazy should be able to tell you the pattern.
